Final Major ProjectProduction Log
Name Hamza Shahid
Date CommentsWeek 1Feb 04 – Feb 10
Had a meeting with my project manager to FMP launch and had a discussion about what I’m going to make and how would I manage it. Finished first draft of production log and schedule.
Week 2 Half Term
Week 3Feb 18 – Feb 24
Started carrying out the research on my FMP, which is a hybrid character, by the means of internet, articles and magazines. Refined the research and updated production log and schedule.
Week 4Feb 25 – March 03
Had a look at a range of different hybrid characters out there I.e. in movies, games, graphics novels and artist made and brought them in a powerpoint presentation as an evidence for my FMP. Then I started drawing from those characters combining different parts of them in one body. Had a meeting with my project manager and let him know what I’m up to and showed him what I’ve done until now. Updated schedule and production log.
Week 5March 04 – March 10
Got many ideas sketched out and came up with a few stronger ideas. Worked on them and had a meeting with my project manager and showed him that I did. Updated Production log and schedule.
Week 6March 11 – March 17
Worked on the stronger ideas. Drew more drawings and sketched them up from different angles to get an idea that which one of them is convenient enough to model and work on as a final idea. Had a usual meeting with my project manager and explained him about my ideas and what I think are the stronger ideas. Updated my schedule and production log.
Week 7March 18 – March 24
Worked on my stronger ideas and after having a thought about what could be the best for to work on as a final idea, I talked to my project manager about the final character that is The Minotaur – Half bull and half man. Considering it as a final idea, I started drawing it from different angels and different facial expressions, showing them continuously to my project manager and taking advice from him. Updated production log and schedule.
Week 8March 25 – March 31 Half Term
Week 9April 01 – April 07 Half Term
Week 10April 08 – April 14
Worked on my final character. Made some of its body parts including face, body, horns and arms using NewTek Lightwave 3D Modeller. Updated my schedule and production log and will have a meeting with my project manager next week
Week 11April 15 - April 21
Did some further modelling of other objects as well as my character using Newtek Lightwave 3D. I modelled my character’s head, an angry bird and currently working on modelling a super-hero. I’m doing this because I believe that modelling different things will enhance my skills and will benefit me in future. Updated production log and schedule.
Week 12April 22 - 28
Learnt a lot more about the 3D software I’m working in. Learnt new techniques like rigging, adding bones, making the character move, adding textures, enhancing the appearance of the character using surface editor and made the head of the character using the ‘add points’ technique by adding a background image of the drawing of my character’s head and working according to its features. It did take me a bit longer but in the end it was worth it.
Week 13April 29 – May 5
Character’s body finished, bones added (named and parented). Did a few renderings recording different moves and animations of the character as an evidence in the production log. Updated schedule and production log.
Week 14May 6 – May 12
Character’s body finished, bones added and parented. Textures, details and facial features still need covering up. Rigged the body in layout and did some further renderings. Updated schedule and production log.
Week 15May 13 – May 19
Had a problem with rotating the bones and moving them in the desired way but got it sorted it out with the help of my tutor. Got some videos of my character’s movement rendered out. Updated production log and schedule
Final Week Completed animation. Rendered out the final videos, uploaded them on youtube to share them on blog as an evidence of my work. Reviewed everything, upload final schedule and production log on blog. Wrote evaluation of what I’ve done. FMP FINISHED!
