Final Semester Poster/Report Presentation (20% of total grade)
We have spent this semester looking at many aspects of sustainability. Humanity has depleted
many of the earth’s natural resources. These actions have left their impact on the earth’s
natural environment.
Get into groups of four (you should know your group by now).
Create a poster detailing how the topic has affected the earth and society negatively and
positively. You should then look at finding substitutes for the products we use. This poster will
be presented and graded during the Tutorial time (see the end of the hand-out for details on
creating the poster).
You should take each topic and look at how we extract/use/dispose of things.
Ideas to think about
Fossil fuel – Oil
Extraction of materials Production/processing Use/uses EOL (end-of-life
ANY MATERIAL THAT IS COPIED FORM THE INTERNET WILL RECEIVE A ZERO GRADE.
YOU SHOULD PUT YOUR INFORMATION IN NOTE FORM AND PARAPHRASE
INFORMATION FROM SOURCES.
You will also create a report on your findings.
This will be submitted to your professor for grading.

What you need to think about when writing your report.
1. Copied work will receive a zero grade
2. You should paraphrase information used from your sources
3. Use quotation marks when using direct information from a source
4. Check you spelling and grammar
5. You should divide the work equally amongst your team
6. You should peer edit each other’s work and seek advice from your instructor
7. Use professional font (Times, Helvetica….)
8. Use professional (meaningful) visuals
Notes:
11
1. You will have lots of information, so you will need to do the poster as a series of smaller posters
2. Your content must be accurate, appropriate, well organized and paraphrased
3. Choose a professional font (Times, Helvetica……..) – keep all fonts the same
4. Make sure people can read your font from a distance (think about the classroom) – test this
5. Think about spacing between lines of text and paragraphs
6. Try not to spell words in capital letters
7. Think about your poster design – colors (no garish colors), shape
8. Use images, charts and diagrams that support what you are saying (do not simply choose random pictures from the Internet). You should be able to interact with your visuals
9. Language - think about:
Make sure you understand the language you use while presenting
Use linking words (cohesion) – reference back (or forward) to other students
What form of language will you use for introductions/conclusions (attention grabber)
How will you transition from student to the next
10. Think about your voice – clarity – volume – intonation – stress – fluency
11. Think about your body language – engage the audience – keep eye contact on the audience
12. Timing – 12 minutes/group - you will need to practice your presentation (time it)
