Final Project

Preliminary Research

The preliminary research we did was over the basics of the

movie. We looked up what kind of environment the

Rainforest is, and where it is located. We also found info

about what South American Indians look like. We researched

what a hotel looks like to get a better sense of what we

were going to draw.

BRAZILIAN BLOOD

Cab pulls, during midday, up to the front entrance of the

Hotel Suave. Four friends pile out with bags and camping

gear. They enter the hotel and check in at the front desk.

JOHN the tall, muscular man wearing a t-shirt that bears

the name of his high school football team and JENNY, the

sweet young lady wearing comfy sweats approach the front

desk to check in. LAWRENCE, Jenny’s boyfriend fresh out of

boot camp, and SARAH, the sorority girl who is dating John,

hang back and wait. Jenny checks in with the YOUNG LADY at

the front desk. John follows close behind and makes a pass

at the woman as she checks them in. Sarah shoots him a

dirty look and they head up stairs with bags and keys to

two rooms.

It’s night and the hotel is hosting their weekly party for

all the guests. The group heads down as it gets later into

the evening for the free food and to relax from their long

trip. They talk about their plans for tomorrow and the tour

guides scheduled to pick them up fr their tour through the

Brazilian rain forest for the next three days. The two

girls converse, as the guys fight over food. They exchange

apologies for the absence of time spent together and

remember the good times in high school.

The next day the group comes down into the lobby with

camping gear and piles it up next to the door while they

await their guides. An OLDER MAN sitting in the corner

warns them of the dangers of the rain forest and tells a

story about how a tiger stalks his prey. The TOUR GUIDES

arrive just in time to catch the end of the story. They

introduce themselves as brothers in the Marcelo Indian

tribe named Dahanna and Tupi. The tour guides calm the

anxiousness in the travelers’ eyes by telling them the old

man is crazy and hangs out playing with the minds of the

Americans that come through. They load the bags and

everyone piles in the van brought by the guides.

In the car the students comment on how beautiful the land

is. Tupi says don’t get too caught up in it it’s a good way

to lose your head. Noticing the scars on the side of Tupi’s

neck, Lawrence asks what he meant. Tupi shrugs it off and

reassures him there is nothing to worry about in Brazil.

They come to the end of the road as it backs up to the

forest and pull over, unload the car, and head into the

woods with all their gear on their backs. Sarah notices how

dense the forest is and mentions that it gives her a creepy

feeling. John laughs it off and calls her a baby. They keep

moving

The tour guides find the spot where they choose to set up

their camp and offer to set up for the night while the

students take a small hike to look around. Dahanna warns

them not to sneak to far off.

The students come bact to set up camp and dinner. They tell

ghost stories and head to bed. John and Sarah stay up and

wonder through the woods for a while. They stray too far

from the camp and realize that they are lost. Then a figure

comes towards them and stops a few yards away. An object

flies towards them and they flinch from it. Sarah turns to

see John with a spear through his chest. She looks towards

the figure with fear on her face, turns, and runs as fast

as she can. As she’s running she trips on a tree root and

falls, hitting her head on a rock. She falls unconscious.

Sarah awakes in the dark tied to a tree. The moon light

shows a man standing in front of her wearing a tribal mask.

He is painting spirits on her face. When he is done he

throws his tools to the ground pulls out a knife, whispers

in another language and cuts her throat.

Lawrence and Jenny awake to find Sarah and John are not in

their tent. Tupi steps out and explains that Dahanna who

knows the woods best has gone looking for them after not

returning the night before. Lawrence and Jenny shake it off

and head out into the woods for a little morning walk.

Lawrence stops to pee and tells Jenny he will catch up to

her. She wonders a ways up ahead and out of site. Lawrence

sees a flock of birds escape a few yards away. He heads

towards the direction Jenny was heading. AS he comes over

the top of the hill he sees a man has a knife and is

creeping towards Jenny. Lawrence grabs the nearest branch,

sneaks up on the masked figure and smashes him in the head.

He continues to beat him until the man is dead. He pries

open the trap and frees Jenny. They remove the mask and

discover Dahanna. They run back to camp, Jenny limping.

They arrive back at camp and Tupi is nowhere to be found.

As they are collecting their belongings Jenny stumbles into

a hidden hole in the gournd. There are bodies around the

floor and paintings of a tribe killing others and getting

praise for it on the wall. They realize this is a rite of

passage for this tribe. While concentrating on getting

Jenny out of the hole Tupi sneaks up and captures Lawrence.

Jenny loses sight and attempts to get out of the hole.

After twenty minutesshe finds a root loose and climbs out

to find Lawrence tied to a tree and unconscious. He begins

to wake to her attempting to untie him. He sees Tupi

sneaking up and warns Jenny, but is too late. Tupi grabs

her and stabs her repeatedly in the back. Lawrence is

forced to watch her die and as Tupi finishes he reaches

down and spears Jenny’s blood on his face. Lawrence frees

himself of the rope and attacks Tupi in rage. They fight

and the knife is knocked to the ground. They split up and

Lawrence finds the rope lying next to the tree. As Tupi

goes for the knife Lawrence jumps him and throws the rope

around his neck. He strangles Tupi to death. Then Lawrence

gets up to check on Jenny. Jenny dies in his arms while

Lawrence cries.

Back in America, Lawrence stands over the graves of his

friends in a cemetery. He tears up bus stays strong. He is

in his uniform and carrying his army bag. He says goodbye,

picks up his bag, and leaves the grave site.

Screenplay

1 EXT. HOTEL SUAVE - DAY 1

LAWRENCE, JENNY, JOHN, and SARAH exit an old run down cab infront of Hotel Suave. The hotel is a large, modern buildingwith a large stone fountain in front of it. The four takeout their luggage as one of the young bell hops greets themand takes their bags.

BELL HOPWelcome to Hotel Suave. Let me takeyour bags so you can go to thefront desk and check in.

JOHNMan, this place is nice. I thoughtBrazil was just a bunch of shittybuildings.

SARAHAre you seriously that stupid,John?

JOHNShut up.

JENNYIs it necessary for you guys tofight everywhere we go? Why can’tyou be like me and Lawrence?

JOHN laughs and puts his arm around SARAH’s shoulder.

LAWRENCELet’s just go inside and check in.I’m so tired I might just cheat onJenny with the bed.

2 INT. HOTEL SUAVE - DAY 2

The group walks into the hotel. Inside, the hotel is coveredin beautiful artwork. The place has marble flooring alongwith dark, rich woods. There are tourists from all aroundthe world walking around. The group goes up to the main deskto check in.

RECEPTIONISTHello everyone and welcome to HotelSuave. How may I help you?

JENNYHi, we are here to check in.

RECEPTIONISTOkay, what name did you guys callin as.

JENNYUmmm, what the hell did we call inas guys?

JOHNJenny, I got this. We are under thename Ramrod.

RECEPTIONISTAhhh, Ramrod. Here you are. Hereare your keys to your room.

RECEPTIONIST hands keys to them.

SARAHI call first dibs on the shower. Ismell like shit because of thatcab.

RECEPTIONISTStave, the bell hop, will walk youto your room. Enjoy your stay, anddon’t forget to join us at ourweekly party tonight.

3 INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY 3

Inside their hotel room, the door opens and the group walksin. Inside there are two over sized beds with paintingshanging above each one. The bell hop drops the bags insidethe room as LAWRENCE hands him a tip as he begins to exitthe room.

BELL HOPThank you, sir.

JOHNThis place is the shit. Just admitit Sarah. If Lawrence and Jennywere not in here right now youwould be ripping off your clothes,and doing the dirty with me?

SARAHOh my God, John. You are such aperve. Why can’t you be a normalboyfriend for once?

SARAHSometimes I wonder.

LAWRENCEI don’t know about you guys, butI’m taking a nap before I doanything else today.

JENNYI agree.

After they all unpack, they turn off the lights and go tosleep.

4 INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT 4

After waking up from their afternoon nap, the four begingetting dressed. While SARAH is in the shower, LAWRENCE,JENNY, and JOHN sit on their beds to talk about the upcomingcamping trip.

JOHNSo, what the hell are we doingtomorrow?

LAWRENCETomorrow morning, we are supposedto be in the lobby at 8am. Somebodyis supposed to pick us up.

JOHNOkay? But, what I meant is what arewe doing tomorrow?

LAWRENCEWe are going camping in theBrazilian rainforest.

JOHNWhy the hell are we camping in arain forest when we could just goparty it up with the locals?

LAWRENCEAre you serious? If we don’t dothis, then we fail our biologyclass.

JENNYSo what exactly are we going to bedoing with these guides then?

LAWRENCEThe first day we are just going totravel decently far into the woodsand set up camp. The next two dayswe are suppose to document anythingwe have talked about in class, liketypes of trees or any exoticanimals. Am I the only one thatpaid attention in that class?

JENNYThat is seriously one of the mostboring classes I have ever taken.Do you really think any of us wouldpay attention?

LAWRENCEObviously not.

SARAH walks out of the bathroom and into the room with justa towel on.

SARAHI’m done. Anyone else that needs totake a shower, it is open.

JOHNAbout damn time. What were youdoing in there? Putting together athousand piece puzzle while combingyour hair?

SARAHShut up, John. Why do you have tobe such a jerk?

JOHNOh babe, you know that I’m justteasing you.

LAWRENCECome on you guys. We need to getready. That hotel party thingstarts soon and the receptionist

JOHNEver since you came back from bootcamp you have been eating like oneof those Japanese hot dogcompetition eaters.

Everyone starts to laugh.

5 INT. HOTEL LOBBY - NIGHT 5

The group walks down to the hotel’s lobby where they arehaving the party at. There are a bunch of set up tables withdark, red table cloths. Hundreds of guests are in the lobby.Most of them are sitting down and eating, while the othersare dancing. The group approaches one of the hotel workersat the entrance of the party

HOTEL WORKERHello everyone. How may I help youtoday?

JENNYWe are here for the party.

HOTEL WORKERAlright, let me show you to yourtable then.

The HOTEL WORKER walks them over to an open table and has awaiter come over to serve them.

CEASARHello everyone, my name is Ceasarand I will be your waiter today. Wehave an open buffet behind you thatyou may help yourselves to at anytime. If you need anything at all,just call me over.

JENNYThank you Ceasar.

Ceasar walks away from the table, and right as he leavesJOHN and LAWRENCE jump out of their seats and run towardsthe buffet.

SARAHOh my God, those guys are such pigs

SARAH and JENNY chuckle.

JENNYYeah, well you should have seenLawrence the first time he ate withmy parents.

SARAHYou guys are such a good couple, incase I have never said it.

JENNYThank you. But, we are not asperfect as you think.

SARAHWhat are you talking about?

JENNYWell you know when Lawrence went toboot camp?

SARAHYeah?

JENNYWhen he was gone I went to thisparty and got really drunk. Towardsthe end of the night I met this oneguy. One thing led to another, andnext thing I know I’m waking upnext to him the next morning. Inever told Lawrence, so pleasedon’t tell him.

SARAHYour secret is safe with me.

LAWRENCE and JOHN walk back to the table with a tray filledwith food.

JOHNWhat were you ladies talking aboutover here?

SARAHOh, nothing.

SARAH rolls her eyes as JENNY and LAWRENCE laugh.

6 INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT 6

After the party, the group walks back to their room. It isclose to midnight as all of them sit on their beds. Lawrencegoes over to his luggage and pulls out his backpack.

JENNYWhat are you doing, Lawrence?

LAWRENCEGetting all my camping gear ready.I’m not going to wake up earlierthen I have to, just to get pack upmy stuff.

JOHNWhat time did you say they weregoing to pick us up again?

LAWRENCE8am.

JOHNFuck. This is going to suck isn’tit?

LAWRENCEOnly if you get bit by a snake oreaten by a panther.

Lawrence laughs.

SARAHGross. Don’t even talk about thatkind of stuff. Snakes scare theshit out of me.

LAWRENCEWhy don’t you guys just get packed.We are going to be gone for threeday and I don’t think our tourguides are going to want to wait onus.

JOHNWait. Why is there going to be twotour guides? There is only four ofus.

LAWRENCEI don’t know. When I called theytold me that it was going to be himand another guy for securityreasons. Don’t really know whatthat means though.

JENNYThat’s weird.

LAWRENCEDoes it really matter though? I’mgoing to bed though. I’ll see youguys in the morning.

LAWRENCE goes to bed. The others finish packing up and, thengo to sleep.

7 INT. HOTEL LOBBY - DAY 7

Everyone walks down to the lobby carrying all of theircamping gear. They all had backpacks with sleeping bags andwater containers attached to them. There are only a fewpeople walking around, and only one worker there. They allsit down inside next to the doors, close to an older, creepylooking guy.

JOHNHow will we know when the guidesget here?

LAWRENCEThey said the would find us. Theywill probably see all of ourcamping gear.

OLD GUYWhat’s all this gear you guys havehere for?

LAWRENCEWe are going camping in the rainforest to do some research for oneof our college classes.

OLD GUYOh, I see. Well I will warn you tobe careful out there. Not everyonemakes it out.

JENNYWhy do you say that?

OLD GUYThere is an ancient story about theforest.

JOHNWhat kind of story?

OLD GUYA true story.

John nervously laughs as the others listen tentativly to theOLD MAN.

JOHNOkay, what is this story than, oldman?

OLD GUYA long time ago there was a manthat lived in the forest. One dayhe found a tiger playing with theman’s dog. Instead of trying tokill the animal, he decided to petit.

JOHNWhy the hell would anyone pet awild tiger?

SARAHShut up, and let him finish thestory.

OLD GUYAfter petting it, he realized thatthe tiger was very friendly andbecame good friends with it. A fewdays later the man put a leash onthe animal. The tiger startedwalking in a certain direction.

OLD GUY (cont’d)After about an hour of walking thetiger came to a stop.

The OLD GUY stops talking as TWO MEN with tribal tattoos,wearing worn down clothes walk into the hotel and stand nextto the group.

JENNYThen what happened?

OLD GUYOh, sorry. Well as the tigerstopped, the man tried to move it,but was unsucessful. He took thistime as a time to rest. Whileresting, the man looked around andstarted hearing weird noises. A fewminutes later he was surrounded bythings that were consideredundescribable.

JOHNWhat do you mean undescribable?

OLD GUYI don’t know. No one really knows.They don’t if it were people,animals, or some sort of spirit.Either way, that was the last timethe man was seen. But to this dayit is said that that same tigerwalks around in search of morepeople to feed to the undescribablethings.

JOHNOkay, like I would ever believethat. Can you guys believe thisguy?

No one responds to JOHN. LAWRENCE looks up at the TWO MENthat are still standing close to them.

LAWRENCEI’m sorry, can we help you guyswith something?

TUPIHello, my name is Tupi and this ismy brother Dahanna. We are yourtour guides. You must be Lawrence,the one we talked to on the phone afew weeks ago.

JOHNYour name is Dona?

SARAH punches John in the arm.

DAHANNANo, my name is Dahanna.

JENNYWhat is up with all of yourtattoos?

TUPIOur tattoos are marking that wehave earned through out our lives.We are members of the Marceloindian tribe.

LAWRENCEThat’s weird, I’ve studied a lot ofthings about Brazil, but I havenever heard of the Marcelo indiantribe.

DAHANNAWe are a people of very smallnumbers, and live discreatly. We donot let outsiders into our tribalarea.

TUPIThat is enough questions for now.We will have plenty of time to talkon our drive to the forest.Everyone, grab your belongings andhead to the van outside.

Everyone takes their luggage and stuffs into the old, rustedvan.

8 EXT. VAN - DAY 8

TUPI and DAHANNA are in the front seats, with TUPI driving.JOHN and SARAH are in the middle seat, with luggage inbetween them. JENNY and LAWRENCE are in the back seat. Theback windows are open. They are driving through the citytowards the rainforest.

SARAHHow long will it be til we getthere?

DAHANNAIt will be about an hour. When weget there, it will take us abouttwo hours to walk to the designatedcamp site.

SARAHAre we going to get bit by snakesare attacked by a tiger?

DAHANNAThat’s not what you are going tohave to worry about.

TUPIIt is the insects and diseases thatwill kill you. Don’t pay anyattention to what that old man saidto you back in the hotel.

SARAHWhat? Screw this, I’m not going inthere.

DAHANNAYou will be fine, just don’t drinkanything, and do what we tell youto do.

LAWRENCE looks up and notices cut marks on the back ofDAHANNA’s neck.

LAWRENCEWhat’s up with all those big asscut marks on the back of your neck,Dahanna?

DAHANNA quickly covers up the cut marks with his hands andhankerchief.

DAHANNAThese cut marks? Oh, umm, I gotthem when I was hunting. I was upin a tree and one of the branchescollapsed. I fell to the ground andmust have cut up my neck on thebranches as I was falling.

JOHNThat had to suck. What were youhunting?

DAHANNAWe were hunting a certain type ofiguana. It is very difficult tofind, and even harder to kill. Ourtribe takes pride in killingdifficult animals.

JOHNDid you guys kill the iguana, orstop?

TUPIWe never let anything get in theway of killing our prey. No matterhow hurt, or sick we are. We willnot stop.

JOHNSo?

DAHANNAYes, we killed that iguana. We usedan ancient trick of making theanimal think we were somewhere elseso that we could sneak up and killit.

LAWRENCEAnd how exactly did you do that?

DAHANNAIt is an ancient trick that hasbeen passed down from generation togeneration. It took years to learnand master. There is no way ofsimply telling you how we do it.All I can tell you is that we arealways in the last place our preywould suspect.

TUPIEnough about us now. What about youguys? Any of you have somethingspecial about you?

SARAHI was voted prettiest back in highschool.

TUPIJenny? Lawrence?

JENNYWell, I use to be a cheerleader,and Lawrence is now an officialUnited States Marine!

TUPIMarine? What’s a marine?

JENNYThey are like an elite form ofsoldiers. They are pretty muchtrained to survive.

DAHANNA mysteriously stares at LAWRENCE for a few minutes asthe van pulls up to the destination.

9 EXT. RAINFOREST - DAY 9

After parking the van, TUPI and the rest of the people inthe vehicle get out. The rainforest is filled with extremelylarge trees that darken the environment the engulf. Afterpulling out all their backpacks and putting them on, thegroup stood in front of TUPI and DAHANNA awaiting theirinstructions.

TUPIDoes everybody have all of theirstuff.

LAWRENCEYup.

TUPIOkay then, everybody will followme, and Dahanna will be in the backto make sure no gets lost. Do what

JOHNWhoa, a little harsh there wouldn’tyou say?

TUPIJust stay quiet and listen to meand my brother.

JOHNDamn, I thought these were tourguides, not drill sergeants.

LAWRENCEJust do what they tell you to do.In case you don’t know, they kindof have been living in therainforest all their lives.

JOHNShut the hell up, man. I know whatI’m doing.

LAWRENCEDo you?

10 EXT. RAINFOREST - DAY 10

Led by Tupi, the group begins walking into the rainforesttowards their camp site. The rainforest is filled with thicktrees and vast wildlife. It is very dark with scatteredstreams of light falling upon the cluttered ground andbranches.

SARAHIf I get bit by one more stupid bugI am going to flip the hell out.

JOHNBabe, you will be fine.

TUPIWhy don’t you put on a long sleeveshirt? You did bring a long sleeveshirt right?

of it. It will be played as the group walks down

the steps towards the party. The song will set a

mood of the group getting excited for a party

they weren’t expecting.

It will be played during a silent moment as the

group is driving towards the Rainforest. It will

set a relaxed mood in order to set up the tense

moments of fighting during the later part of the

movie.

middle of it during the party. It is used as more

of a party song as people dance to it.

The part used from the song will be the beginning

of it. It will be used during the opening seen as
