Investment bankers (i-bankers) provide a range of financial services to companies, institutions and
governments. They help clients raise capital, provide strategic advice to clients, and identify and secure
new deals. They manage corporate, strategic and financial opportunities, including mergers,
acquisitions, issuing bonds and shares, lending, privatizations, and public issues (IPOs). I-Bankers are
experts at calculating what a business is worth. I-banks are made up of many divisions and investment
bankers perform a range of different functions within them.
Traditionally, i-banking dealt with corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The definition
has blurred in recent years and may also include trading bonds and shares. Large trading decisions have
to be backed up by solid research about the health of the company (investee). An Equity Research
Analyst provides traders with this research also generates investment ideas such as finding an
undervalued sector or company.
I-Banks seek strong academics, in-depth knowledge of finance and capital markets, solid skills in handling
spreadsheet, report-writing and presentation tools. Salaries of i-bankers and star research analysts has
always been a driver of aspirations for the sector. Boutique firms and KPOs tend to pay less than others at
entry level. Though, you might actually be better off taking less, as in the long run, the quality of
experience you get and the strength of the people you will work with are far more important than how
much you get paid.
Through AFT-FMV®, we back up your strong academic education and financial skills, with practical
training on corporate finance and valuation methods, business research and financial modeling, MS-
Excel skills. Most importantly, we provide you with networking opportunities and access to the entry-level
jobs in Investment Banking
