The Multicultural Health Information Resources Center helps Creighton University health sciences students and faculty, community health care workers and the general public understand issues concerning minority health care and health disparities among people of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The Library staff provide support for faculty as they strive for social justice. The library held two training sessions for members of the Pixan Ixim-Maya community on the use of resources provided by the National Library of Medicine in an effort to promote health literacy. Finding God in the Health Sciences Library The Health Sciences Library strives to provide health sciences information to our community and provide an environment conducive to teaching, learning, research, collaboration, and study. The staff takes a dynamic and collaborative role in coaching, teaching, guiding, and providing new opportunities in professional health sciences education. Faith that Does Justice At the end of each semester the HSL accepts canned food from patrons in exchange for fines that were accrued. The food that is collected is then donated to local food banks. The HSL employs a number of student workers, giving them work experience and helping them accomplish their goals at Creighton and toward their future. HSL staff contribute to the annual Thanksgiving dinner for students. The members of the HSL staff strive to support their users by providing the latest and most complete academic resources to current and future health care providers. The staff also promotes health literacy within the community through health fairs and outreach activities. Staff members have been involved in Project Interfaith and the Creighton Haiti Outreach Committee. The HSL keeps extended hours for reference librarians in an effort to provide research support to students and faculty that would otherwise be unable to get help. During finals, hours are now being further extended to give students more opportunity to study and use our resources. Serving as Church Council President Staff at the HSL strive to be active participants in the community and donate their time to help those in physical, emotional, and spiritual need. Staff members donate to the Family to Family Project, Nebraska and Iowa Humane Societies.
