Finding The Midpoint

Solving the x (left) sideSolve each side separately (easier).

For the x side:

(-1) + 3 = 22/2 = 1

The Midpoint FormulaFor example, when you have 2 endpoints: [ A(-1, 2) and B(3, -6)], x1 and x2 would replace -1 and 3 respectively; y1 and y2 would then replace 2 and -6.

More video links!Solving the y (right) sideThen, for the y side:

2 + (-6) = -4(-4)/2 = -2Solved!The answer for the midpoint would be:Midpoint (1, -2)

Thats the conventional method to find the midpoint. But as long as you remember that you're averaging the two points'x- andy-values, you will do fine. It won't matter which point you pick to be the first point you start with.

At each endpoint, there are 2 values: x and y , because they are in the area between the x-axis and y-axis.

So, value for A would be x1 and y1 , while B would be x2 and y2 .

Not A = x1 and x2 , B = y1 and y2 .
