Lot: 24A set of six plates by Jacques Faizant 1950s, by Faiencerie deSt Amand, in original oval box with corresponding label, 8in.(20.3cm.) diameter. (6) * Jacques Faizant was one of France'smost popular press illustrators. After studying at the hotelschool in Nice, he worked in several hotels until 1938. He thensettled in Marseille and went to work as an illustrator. Faizantproduced comics such as 'Le Colonel Broum et Patapoum,Monsieur Mite' and 'L' Inraisemblable M. The originalset of four monumental marble groups of mythical abductionsby Marsy, designed for the corners of the never-built garden byCharles LeBrun at Versailles, were later reduced and cast asbronzes upon Louis XVI's order, two of which are held in theGetty Museum's collection.
