Provenance : Purchased by the vendor from the Royal Scottish Academy Exhibition in 1972, Catalogue No. 130. Note : David McClure, born in Renfrewshire, attended Glasgow University, breaking for War Service in the mines in 1944. Afterwards, he studied at Edinburgh University and College of Art, and a scholarship took him to Spain and Italy in 1952. He taught part-time at Edinburgh College of Art from 1953-55, when the college's award of the Andrew Grant Fellowship allowed him to paint full-time for two years, part of which he spent in Sicily. In 1957, he joined the teaching staff of 'Duncan of Jordanstone' College of Art in Dundee, where he was Head of Painting from 1983 until he retired in 1985. 'Nude Girl with Death's Head' is widely considered to be an excellent example of McClure's work, and the size, at 102 x 127 cm, is one of the larger examples.Estimate: £6,000.00 - £10,000.00
