INTRODUCTION
The Old Farm House (formerly Ravenshall Farmhouse)
Ravenshall Farmhouse consists of brickwork walls under a clay tile
pitched roof. The majority of the rear elevation is rendered and
decorated white. The south cross-wing is not rendered, whereas the
front elevation of the hall range was painted white historically. The hall
range also hides a timber framed structure with two sets of Cruck
frames. The north gable is rendered and has a single storey attached
outrigger, with a clay tile mono pitched roof. The rear elevation has an
elongated single storey range attached to the hall range, with a clay
tiled mono pitched roof, sloping down from the main roof, with some
courses of fishscale clay tiles. There is a conservatory to the north-
east. There is a garage to the north-east corner. A single storey brick
porch and the front entrance door, with pitched clay tile roof, sits
between the hall range and the south cross-wing, in the re-entrant
angle of the two ranges. There are two chimneys: to the north gable
end; and to the centre of the hall range. The south-cross-wing has two
chimney flues to its south elevation.

WRINEHILL / BETLEY
Wrinehill, also called Checkley cum Wrinehill is a village on the A531
Road on the Cheshire, Staffordshire border next to the pretty village of
Betley. One village melds seamlessly into the other, with the Hand and
Trumpet Public House / Restaurant (telephone no. 01270 820048) lying
at the northerly edge of Wrinehill, a short walk from Orchard End.
The Crown Inn on Den Lane is a short distance further on (telephone
no.01270 820472).
Note. Community website for further information: betley-balterley-
wrinehill.org.uk.
Local amenities in Betley include a Primary School, Church, Public
House, Village Hall and Post Office/General Store. Betley is a bustling
village with thriving community spirit and active social events calendar.
The village provides a range of local amenities including a primary
school, nursery, church, doctors surgery, village shop, Post Office, and
The Swan Public House.
Betley - meaning the 'clearing in the woods' of Bette (a Saxon woman's
name) - is an ancient settlement. It is mentioned in the Domesday
Book. It is one of several villages - including Buddileigh, Audley, and
Madeley - which seem to be named after women.
It had a major market, the charter for which was granted in the
thirteenth century. At Betley Hall, a now-demolished country house,
Charles Darwin conducted some of his zoological observations and
Florence Nightingale visited.
At another country house in the village, Betley Court (which is still
standing), lived the Romantic poet Eliza Tollet.
The church, dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, is a beautiful medieval
building (reasonably well-restored by George Gilbert Scott), with oak
beams and a cricket ground to the rear.
The neighbouring village of Wrinehill which seamlessly continues from
the Betley boundary boasts the Brunning & Price owned The Hand &
Trumpet Public House.
NEARBY NANTWICH (7 MILES)
Nantwich is a charming market town set beside the River Weaver with
a rich history, a wide range of speciality shops & 4 supermarkets.
Nantwich in Bloom in November 2015 was delighted to have once
again scooped the prestigious Gold award from the Britain in Bloom
competition. In Cheshire, Nantwich is second only to Chester in its
wealth of historic buildings. The High Street has many of the town's
finest buildings, including the Queen's Aide House and The Crown
Hotel built in 1585. Four major motorways which cross Cheshire
ensure fast access to the key commercial centres of Britain and are
linked to Nantwich by the A500 Link Road. Manchester Airport, one of
Europe's busiest and fastest developing, is within a 45 minute drive of
Nantwich. Frequent trains from Crewe railway station link Cheshire to
London-Euston in only 1hr 30mins. Manchester and Liverpool offer
alternative big city entertainment. Internationally famous football
teams, theatres and concert halls are just some of the many attractions.

GENERAL REMARKS AND COMMENTS
'The Farmhouse itself contains Medieval, Tudor 17th, 18th, 19th and
20th Century elements and also includes two pairs of cruck frames, as
well as many historic beams throughout. All this history hides behind
an 18th Century brick facade'.
