Al-Wudhu’ (Continuation)

(By Sister Eman al Obaid on 05.06.2012)

In our last class we did Sifat-il-Wudu' (Components of Wudu'),

Shuroot Al-Wudu’ (Conditions of Wudu’), Waajib Al-Wudu’

(Mandatory Acts of Wudu’), Furoodh Al-Wudu’ (Obligatory Acts of

Wudu’) and Sunan Al-Wudu’(Sunnah acts of Wudu').

Today we will see >>>

al-boul wal-'ghaa'it wa-r-reeh.

That which comes out from the two private parts (front And

back)-

For example: Urine, stool and passing wind/gas.

2. Al-boul wal-ghaa'it ithaa kharaja min ghayri sabeelayn…

If the urine and stool comes out from any exit other than the

two private parts (front and back).

For example: People who had undergone some kind of major

surgery will have artificial openings (stoma) for urine and stool to

flow from the body to a collection bag. In this case, though the

urine and stool did not come out from the two private parts but

from other exit/openings, it nullifies wudhu'.

3. An-nawm wamaa shaabah: kal-ighmaa' wa-t-takhdeer……

Sleep and anything like that: Such as unconsciousness/fainting

or anesthesia (general).

Sound sleep, unconsciousness/fainting, anesthesia (general) etc.

nullifies wudhu'.

As for light sleep in which one would realize if something comes

out of him/her (for ex: passing gas), this kind of sleep does not

invalidate wudhu’.

4. Akal laham-il-ibl-

Eating camel's meat.

Only eating camel's meat nullifies wudhu' but not drinking its

milk.

5. Mass-al-faraj bil-yad…..

Touching the private parts with hands without any barrier-

If one touches his private parts with his hands without any veil or

cover between his hands and his private parts, his wudhu' is

nullified but if one touches a child's (boy/girl) private part when

washing him/her, his wudhu is not nullified.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked

about a woman who washed her child when she is in a state of

purity. Does she have to do wudoo’?

He replied:

If a woman washes her child, boy or girl, and touches the child’s

private part, she does not have to do wudoo’, rather she only has to

wash her hand, because touching the private part without desire does

not necessitate wudoo’. It is known that when a woman washes her

children, desire does not even enter her mind, so if she washes her

child she only needs to wash her hands to get rid of any najaasah that

has got onto them, and she does not have to do wudoo’. End quote.

Majmoo’Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (11/ 203).

This is all about nawaaqidh al-wudhu' or the things which nullify or break one's wudhu.

What should one do if he/she prayed without wudhu’?

Man salla bi-ghayri wudhu' naasiyan, wajaba 'alayhi i'aadat as-

salaat-

One who prayed without wudhu by forgetting, it is obligatory for

him/her to repeat the Salaat (Prayer).

After performing the Salaat(Prayer), if you realize or remember that you had forgot to do wudhu’ before starting to pray and you had performed the Salaat without wudhu’, then you need to make wudhu’ and repeat that Salaat again.

Page 4: FIQH-UL-'IBAADAT (THE FIQH OF WORSHIP) Al-Wudhu ... · One who prayed without wudhu by forgetting, it is obligatory for him/her to repeat the Salaat (Prayer). After performing the

If a Muslim wakes up from night sleep and wants to make

wudhu’ from a vessel (of water), he must not put his hands into

it till he has washed it three times (before making wudhu’).

Hadith:

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RadhiyAllahu ‘anhu) that the

Prophet (SallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: When anyone

the utensil till he has washed it three times, for he does not

know where his hand was during the night. [Sahih Muslim- The

Book of Purification (Kitab At-Taharah) , Book 002, Number

0544]

Alhamdulillah, now a days we have taps and so we don’t need to

make wudhu’ with water stored in the vessels/utensils.

2. Yajib an-yahris al-muslim ‘ind-al-wudhu’ ‘ala eesaalil maa’ li-

jamee’i-l-‘udhu……

When making wudhu, it is obligatory for a Muslim that he

should make sure to reach the water to all the body parts/limbs

which should be washed off and particularly to wash between

the fingers of the hands and toes of the feet, between the beard

(for men), ears, elbows, ankles and heels.

When making wudhu’, we need to take care not to miss or forget to

wash any of the body parts which should be washed off, but at the

same time we need to avoid over doing it due to waswaas

(insinuating whisperings from the Shaytaan).

3. Ithaa kaan-al-Muslim ghayr mutawadhdha’ thumma shakka:

Hal tawadhdha’ am laa?......

If a Muslim did not make wudhu’ but he doubts: Did he make

wudhu’ or not? Here actually he didn’t make wudhu’ but he

raises doubts, so he needs to make wudhu’.

4. Ithaa tawadhdha’ al-muslim fa-ghasalah a’daa’il-wudhu’

If a Muslim does wudhu, washing each body parts (which

should be washed off when making wudhu’) one-time, one-time or

Page 6: FIQH-UL-'IBAADAT (THE FIQH OF WORSHIP) Al-Wudhu ... · One who prayed without wudhu by forgetting, it is obligatory for him/her to repeat the Salaat (Prayer). After performing the

two-times, two-times or (washes) some of it (means some part)

once, and some of it twice and some of it thrice, his wudhu’ is

correct but he has left the best.

This means when you make wudhu’, if you wash each parts / limbs

one-time or two-times or if you wash some parts (for ex: face) once

and some parts (for ex: hands) twice and some parts (for ex: legs)

thrice, then the wudhu’ you did is not wrong but you left the best

thing because washing all the parts three times (except wiping

over the head and ears which is always done only once) is one

of the Sunan al-wudhu’ and it is always the best way of doing

wudhu’.

What to do if one leaves any of the obligatory acts of

wudhu/Furoodh al-wudhu’ -

Man taraka ahad furoodh-al-wudhu’, ou ba’dhahu, lam yasuhha

allathee qablahu ghasalahu wamaa ba’dahu, wa in jaff-al-'udhoo'

Man shakka fi taraki ahadi-l-a'dhaa' ba'da intihaa'-il-wudhu', lam

yaltafit ila haatha-ash-shak.

If you have left any one of the fardh/obligatory acts of wudu’, or

some of it, wudu’ is not valid. If you realize that you have left

(any part/limbs) before it has dried (For ex: You realized that you

have left your elbows while washing the arms, while you started

washing the feet), then go back to that part (which you had left

without washing, ex: arms/elbows) which you had left and continue

from washing that part (till the last part, ie; feet), but if it (the

part/limb you had missed, ex: arms) has dried, then you need to

repeat the whole wudu.

After completing the wudhu', if you have doubt that you have left

(washing) some of the obligatory parts (means you are not sure

about whether you have left washing some obligatory parts or not),

then you don't need to pay attention to this doubt.
