INTEGRATED FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMSIn compliance with UNI EN 12845/15, UNI 11292, UNI 10779

Most of the fire fighting systems currently installed, which use the pressure of the water systems, are outdated

and do no longer comply with the most recent norms, and it is now necessary to create independent water

storage units, able to autonomously supply water to all water fire fighting systems. Righetto Serbatoi design a

wide range of integrated fire fighting systems, assembled in full compliance with the most recent norms, with the

aim of achieving a single system with its complete CE certificate, easy to install and ready for the connection to

the electric and water systems. The variety of versions offered is sufficient to satisfy all requirements in civil and

industrial use, and in full compliance with UNI 11292 norm.

CONSTRUCTION TYPE CHARACTERISTICSAll our tanks are manufactured with top quality carbon steel S235JR, in accordance with UNI EN 10025 norm, they are internally and externally welded with arc submersed and mig process. The tanks undergo testing for 12-24 hours. Welding procedures are in compliance with UNI EN ISO 15614-1, the Righetto Serbatoi welders’ qualifications are in accordance with EN 287-1 norm.

ACCESS ROOMSThe access rooms to the tanks and to the technical rooms are equipped with lockable lids and removable grid. Extensions are available on request for coupling to be made on site.

SYSTEM COUPLINGSAll the suction and vent couplings are in compliance with UNI norms and their sizes are in accordance with UNI EN 12845 and UNI 10779 norm. The filling valve is in stainless steel and is high-pressure PN16 type, equipped with float. In case the tank is a reduced capacity type, two valves are used, in accordance with clause 9.3.4 of UNI 12845 norm.

COATINGSThe external coating of the underground tanks is in endoprene, with minimum thickness 800 micron, sufficient to block underground electric currents shocks, in conformity with EN 12285 norm, clause 1.03. Above-ground tanks are painted with acrylic catalyzed paint thick 100/120 micron. All inner coatings are in epoxy-catramine medium thickness 150 micron.

TECHNICAL ROOMThe technical room is designed in compliance with UNI 11292, clause 5, with fire resistance R60 degree. The working area (2400 mm internal height, 800 mm free space on the three sides of the pumps) and the ventilation grids have sizes according to UNI 11292, clause 5.4. The walkable floor is made of non-slip material without gaps and reinforced in order to withstand the weight of the pumps, as per clause 5.3.

PRESSURIZATION GROUPIt is installed inside the technical room and can includes horizontal centrifugal pumps or vertical turbine pumps. All options are equipped with testing circuit with capacity meter, according to UNI EN 12845, UNI 10779 and UNI 11292 norm.

ELECTRIC SYSTEMThe electric system in the technical room is designed in compliance with CEI EN 61439, CEI 164-8 and CEI EN 60204.1 norms, with a control board for the auxiliary connections as per UNI 11292 clause 6 (lighting, ventilation, water level, heating, draining pumps, water presence probe).

CERTIFICATIONSThe certifications available and the normative references for our fire safety systems are:

- 2006/42/CE Machine Directive.- 2006/95/CE Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive.- CE Conformity Declaration.- UNI EN 12845 – UNI 10779 – UNI 11292 Declaration of Conformity.- Test protocols for the pump group and for the tank.

DOCUMENTSThe documents issued for our integrated fire-fighting systems are: - Use and maintenance manual.

- Electric and connections diagrams.- Installation diagrams and technical detailed drawings of the products.

Direct access to the technical room through an entrance with min. width 800 mm and min. height 2000 mm, a fixed internal stairway, a circular or straight (double) type. Removable and vertical ladders are no longer accepted , ref. clause 4.2.2.

Two anti-flooding bilge pumps, min. capacity 10 m3/h, one of which has its independent power source and an alarm system, ref. clause 6.3.2

A water alarm system with remote connection, clause 6.3.2.

An adequate ventilation system in the technical room. Especially in presence of a motor driven pump an air extraction device must be installed with its air vents and designed taking into consideration the power of the engine.

A bilge pump and a forced air extractor emergency battery against potential problems due to interruptions of the electric supply.

An auxiliary lamp should be installed (min. 200 Lux) and an emergency one (min. 25 Lux for 60 mins.), ref. clause 6.2.1.

The rooms’ internal dimensions and distances should allow an easy maintenance on the pump group and on the main control board, with the operators protected by external atmospheric conditions, ref. clause 5.2.2.

The floor should be flat, uniform and not slippery, ref. clause 5.3.

One or more fire extinguishers should be installed, with rating plate, ref. clause 6.7.

OUTDOOR SYSTEMSThe integrated outdoor fire fighting systems are an effective and ideal solution, thanks to the easiness of

installation and maintenance procedures.

In particular, only a flat concrete supporting base is required for the installation, and its dimensions should be

determined by a qualified technician.

Maintenance is a simple process as the tank and its connections are clearly visible from the outside and the

pump compartment is accessible, therefore all requested inspections can be easily carried out.

UNDERGROUND SYSTEMSThe integrated fire fighting systems are an ideal and effective solution should an above-ground installation not

be possible due to lack of space.

This system can be installed underneath traffic areas, thus enabling to use all available space above the

installation site of the tank. A huge advantage, also considering that the system is protected by external

temperature fluctuations, as the ground has constant temperature 10°.

Designed to guarantee freedom of movement according to UNI 11292/08 norm and also ensuring the operators’

environment. The technical compartment has a fire resistance degree R60 according to UNI EN 12845; the

prefabricated compartments include:

PRESSURIZATION GROUPSThe pressurization groups are UNI EN 12845 compliant, they are installed inside our technical rooms and can

be equipped with a variety of pumps, electric or endothermic engines. They are supplied pre-assembled on

supporting skids, complete with the hydraulic and electric components.

This is the main part of the system and has to guarantee the necessary capacity and pressure of water from

the water tank.

VERTICAL TURBINE PUMPSThe pressurization groups are UNI EN 12845 compliant, they are installed inside our technical rooms and can be equipped with a variety of pumps, electric or endothermic engines. They are supplied pre-assembled on supporting skids, complete with the hydraulic and electric components.This is the main part of the system and has to guarantee the necessary capacity and pressure of water from the water tank.

Fire fighting system pressurization group with vertical axe, pre-assembled on a base, with submerged pump body, above ground control group as per EN 12845. The pump groups installed in the technical room are designed in compliance with UNI EN 12845 and are complete with all necessary elements in order to start automatically the system in the case when water supply is required.In the standard versions the pump groups consist of one or more electric driven pumps, or in alternative of a diesel pump (main) and a pilot compensating electric driven pump.

FOAM PLANTSBesides the traditional water fire fighting systems, in some case the use of an additional foam mixed with water

is necessary. These systems are installed along with the usual pressurization groups, and they can be outdoor

or indoor type.

FOAM PLANTS (a norma UNI EN 13565 – 1 2008 e NFPA/UNI EN 13565 – 2 2009)

Foam generator with high expansion rate. High expansion foam extinguishing system installed inside a technical room of a fire fighting system, including a complete tank and deluge valves for the separate circuits.

The pre-mixer includes a foaming storage tank and a line-blender installed on the water fire safety line, which feeds the system through the pressurization group. The necessary quantity of foam is diluted with water in the blender, then pushed along the pipes and emulsified with air by the nozzles or generators with the requested expansion ratio.

Foam is an effective fire extinguishing agent, made of water, air and foaming agent. It is particularly effective

against class A fires (plastic and rubber etc.) and class B ones (flammable liquids and fuel, paints etc.). Foam

puts out fires thanks to:

- Cooling: water foam, while evaporating, lowers the fire temperature.

- Suffocation: the dense layer of foam prevent oxygen from fanning the flames.

- Insulation: preliminary spraying of foam on objects prevents expansion of the fire.

- “Cover” effect: the layer of foam prevents the circulation of fuel vapors in the air.

Three types of fire safety systems are available, depending on the characteristics of the area to be protected:

1. Low expansion type foam expansion ratio 1:4 1:20 (surface fires). This type of foam scrolls and sticks

easily to surfaces, floats on liquids.

2. Medium expansion type foam expansion rate 1:20 1:200 (surface fires). A fluid and light foam,

compact and able to absorb the heat.

3. High expansion foam expansion rate 1:200 1:1000 (volume fires). It is particularly dry and light and

able to fill up completely internal spaces and compartments.

Water storage tank.

Pressurization group.

Pre-mixer (tank and blender).

Control valve/s and alarm valve/s.

Nozzles/generators for high expansion foam.

The foaming agent is stocked inside a tank with dimensions to be determined in accordance with the volume

of the area to be protected. Inside the tank, the foam is contained inside a membrane in woven rubber. The

membrane prevents any contact between foam, water and the tank surface, thus avoiding dilution of the foaming

element and corrosion of the surface.

TRANSPORT Other systems

Among other types of service, Righetto Serbatoi are able to arrange delivery to site of our fire fighting systems, including special transports.

Installation

A use and maintenance manual is always included in the shipment among all other documents, in compliance

with the Machine Directive 2006/42/CE and DPR 459/96 dated 24/07/96, including all necessary instruction for

downloading, installation underground of the tanks, besides the schedule of maintenance.

Maintenance

Our service points are able to assist our customers with “scheduled maintenance” programs, in full compliance

with UNI EN 12845, clause 20.

Righetto Serbatoi offers a wide range of special liquid storage systems such as large vertical tanks (assembled on site), parallelepiped tanks, customized tanks, and are able to assist customers for specific installation issues.
