Setting the standard

Global capability

While our reach is global, we focus on tailoring our services to meet your immediate local needs. So while we deliver fire, safety and survival courses from our facilities in key industry locations around the world, we can also bring our training to you.

We own and manage training centres in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Further facilities are in development to meet the growing demand for our expert instruction. We have more than 500 skilled professionals and support staff operating globally. Together they develop the competencies of more than 56,000 delegates a year.

Designing training for delivery on a customer’s own premises, operational platform, vessel or other asset often adds an extra dimension. Delegates receive fire, safety and survival training on familiar facilities and equipment, potentially further enhancing their level of competence. In the last 12 months, our instructors have travelled offshore and overseas to deliver training in all aspects of fire, safety and survival. We’ve trained personnel on UK North Sea platforms and vessels; both onshore and offshore in Egypt; in Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Norway and South Africa; and on assets in the Gulf of Mexico.

Our foundations as a company lie in fire, safety and survival training. It’s the arena in which we made our name when Petrofac Training Services first opened its doors. We’ve been in the business of setting benchmarks in the field ever since, and the industry continues to call upon our fire, safety and survival expertise today.

Developing competency and training standards in fire, safety and survival has been a key focus for the global oil & gas industry for many years. We have been heavily involved in the design of industry training standards for the North Sea over the years. Much of our work in the UK has been recognised as industry best practise.

We operate with quality and safety at our core, and we inspire and facilitate the same commitment in customer organisations. New knowledge comes to light all the time. So we work closely with industry and its regulators to refresh training standards, establish safer ways of working and train individuals to the highest level possible.

Training is conducted in a realistic yet controlled and closely monitored environment. Our instructors draw upon their experience to guide delegates through the various training scenarios, so as not to subject individuals to undue stress or pressure. It’s a challenging and immersive approach, designed to inspire in delegates confidence that they could one day tackle a real life crisis situation.

Our training at a glance

We have the capacity to instil in personnel at all levels the requisite fire, safety and survival knowledge and skills. Our wide spectrum of courses ranges from general awareness to specialist training. Key behaviours are learned and developed through a combination of classroom based and practical exercises.

In any environment where large numbers of personnel operate complex equipment – at times in hostile conditions – there’s an increased risk of fire and accident. The ability of key personnel to respond appropriately, individually and as teams, is crucial to the safety of the entire workforce.

Fire training focuses on the need to respond swiftly and safely, at the same time minimising risks to people, assets and the environment.

Basic training in fire fighting and use of breathing apparatus is targeted at all personnel. This ensures that everyone operates with at least an introductory level of competence and safety. We can also deliver more advanced training to individuals and teams who have emergency response roles.

Teamwork is a vital component of much of our advanced training. Should disaster strike an offshore platform or an onshore facility, it’s vital to have in place leaders skilled in helping teams to react quickly and effectively. So we offer a range of courses designed specifically for teams and their leaders.

We can also support corporate fire safety plans by providing fire safety audits and risk assessment.

Offshore survival and marine training is relevant to all personnel who travel offshore to work on platforms and vessels. All of our courses focus on safety, control, response teamwork, and equip individuals with a range of emergency survival tools and techniques.

Key industry recognised courses that we offer include Basic Offshore Safety Induction Emergency Training (BOSIET) and Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET). Each allows the delivery of consistent competency standards in various aspects of survival training.

The provision of marine training for the oil & gas and maritime industries has been core to our activity for a number of years. Many such courses focus on the key processes required to operate and manage a marine craft and its passengers. We provide a range of coxswain, fast rescue craft (FRC) and command and control courses from our facilities around the globe.

Fire training Survival training Safety training Personnel have a responsibility for their own personal safety and to collectively ensure a safe working environment for all. Whatever their role, each individual member of the workforce must have the required knowledge and competence to operate safely.

We offer a broad range of introductory level safety related training, suitable for all personnel. Advanced courses are aimed at individuals with responsibility for managing, monitoring and advising on health and safety issues within teams and at facilities. Our safety courses may be targeted at onshore and/or offshore operations.

Our dedicated safety training encompasses a broad range of disciplines, including the handling of dangerous goods, safe systems of work, rigging and lifting operations, and first aid. Safety is also a major consideration in all of the other courses that we deliver.

NASA’s Johnson Space Centre Houston, Texas, USA

In 2011, we introduced a unique survival training facility to the US market in partnership with Raytheon Technical Services. Working out of NASA’s state-of-the-art training facility at Johnson Space Centre, Houston, we can now deliver high consequence training to the oil & gas industry.

The facility’s 6.2 million gallon, 40-foot deep pool was originally designed to support space walk planning, testing and training. Its immense scale is matched only by its technological sophistication. The pool continues to support the space programme alongside our survival training programme. We are working closely with industry to provide training to various standards, including OPITO and IADC, as well as to deliver company-approved training courses.

Since 2006, SRTC has also delivered survival training to meet the company’s own Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET)/Water Survival standard.

Sakhalin Technical Training Centre, Sakhalin Island, Russia

We opened Sakhalin Technical Training Centre (STTC) in 2008 to help meet increased demand in the region for competent local personnel. All training delivered by STTC is designed to equip Russia’s emerging oil & gas industry with the resources it requires. Delegates aim to achieve Russian Federation of Mandatory and Vocational Training competence standards. At STTC, we deliver OPITO-approved survival courses and a broad range of HSE training, plus technical English language training.

Marine Survival Training Centre, Lafayette Louisiana, USA In 2005, we embarked on a joint venture with the Marine Survival Training Center (MSTC), the marine and survival training arm of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
