MEDIA RELEASE February 20, 2019 Weekly Incident Summary February 11-17, 2018 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, February 11, 2019 00:52 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Mill St. On scene fire staff was informed that the alarm had activated and a tenant had called the fire department. The alarm was found to have activated falsely. Alarm was silenced and left in the care of building personnel until arrival of alarm technicians. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 04:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Fallbrook Trail. Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised that they believe a heater unit has overheated. The homeowner has large heater units that are hardwired into the electrical throughout the house. A burnt electrical smell on the main floor of the house was detected. The homeowner reported hearing a popping sound and shut the breakers off to the heaters. Using thermal imaging cameras (TIC) fire staff found no signs of heat. The panel on the heater in the kitchen was removed and a large scorch mark on the panel and burned electrical inside the unit itself was noted. The homeowner was advised to leave the breaker off to the faulty unit and call an electrician or HVAC company to inspect, and make the necessary repairs. 12:50 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle in the ditch in the area of 10 Sideroad & Barber Drive. On scene fire was advised they were not required. 21:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Fourth Line in Erin. Paramedics were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

Wednesday, February 13, 201910:16 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff determined the alarm activated as a result of a power failure. No further concerns.

14:43 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff spoke with construction crew who advised the alarm was activated by their work.

Thursday, February 14, 201923:17 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Webster Way. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff determined the detector was faulty.

Friday, February 15, 201910:02 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Longfield Rd in Acton. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff replaced the battery in the detector with no further concerns.

Saturday, February 16, 201909:56 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a natural gas odour inside a residence on Beaumont Crt. On scene fire staff entered the home where the smell of gas was very evident. Using detectors fire staff found zero readings throughout the house. Due to the gas and pilot light being shut off to the furnace, staff could not simulate a furnace problem. Fire staff were unable to duplicate the problem. The homeowner was advised not to use the furnace and to contact a service company to inspect the furnace and check for any issues or problems with gas and ignition.

16:15 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the area of Trafalgar Rd & Steeles Ave. While enroute fire was advised that the vehicle owner had extinguished the fire. On scene fire staff confirmed the fire was extinguished and left the scene with Halton Regional Police.

Sunday, February 17, 201909:17 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist in the area of Elizabeth Dr & Main St N in Acton. On scene fire staff assisted a resident who had fallen and dislocated their knee. Fire staff provided patient care until Halton Regional Paramedics arrived.

09:34 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a medical assist for the report of a person who had fallen in a parking lot on Guelph St in Norval. On scene fire staff provided patient care until Halton Regional Paramedics arrived.

13:25 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Irwin Cres. On scene fire staff determined that the CO detector was activating. Fire staff changed the batteries and the CO detector worked as intended.

20:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Church St E. Halton Regional Paramedics were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

23:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Elmore Dr in Acton. Upon arrival smoke was visible from the rear of the home. Upon entry to the home heavy smoke and high heat were emanating from the basement stairs. Fire staff quickly extinguished the fire, preventing the fire from spreading throughout the home. After an investigation it was determined that the fire started in the control portion of the dryer and spread from there. Preliminary estimate of loss to structure and contents is $125,000

23:51 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Airedale Crt in Acton. Halton Regional Police and Halton Regional Paramedics were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff assisted with patient care and cleared the scene.
