Significant Incidents from Fireworks • Multifamily dwelling- $275,000 in Charlotte area from fireworks • On July 4th, 2015 we had a couple of significant fires that were caused by consumer fireworks: Wilmington NC • Old Time Pottery at 4302 Shipyard Blvd. had about $10,000 in damages to their roof due to a missile type consumer
rocket. During the investigation, several bottle rockets were also found on top of the building and around the exterior. • Another fire at a one/two family residential caused damage to a section of wooden fence and destroyed a generator
the was an exposure to the fence. • Brush/grass fires due to consumer fireworks and several calls to our 911 center for the same reasons. • The building was a three story – nine unit condominium. Each unit was individually owned with some being rented
out. As you will read in the investigative report, one of the occupants purchased consumer fireworks from a local retailer and conducted a firework show in the parking lot. The occupant then gathered all the trash from the show and placed them in the bed of a UTV that was parked beside the building. The casing and trash must have still been smoldering and they ignited the bed of the UTV which then led to fire extension to the vinyl siding of the building. Once the fire caught the vinyl siding, it traveled to the roof and into the attic.
