Monumental FaithHave you ever visited Washington D.C.? Forget the politics. It’s an amazing place. In the governing centers, there are monuments and memorials on virtually every corner. It’s a pigeon’s paradise. There’s a monument to remember this great person or to commemorate a certain significant event. If you are an American, you should visit our national capital at least once in your life. You can’t help but feel patriotic because the monuments tell our grand and wonderful story. They are a picture of our national soul.We each have a story with God as well. God has done wonderful, unexpected things in my life and I’m certain that’s the case for you as well. Have you made any monuments to God’s activity in your life? You should. It’s a biblical practice as we’ll see in the Scriptures this morning.Memorial Day is a time to remember. Along with those who have come before us, let us remember, too, the good things that God has done for us.Pastor Bob

On Mission: One Great Hour of Sharing 2018 More Than We Can Imagine:Disaster Relief for Seminario Evangélico de Puerto RicoWhen hurricanes Irma and Maria hi t Puerto Rico, Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico, San Juan, was not spared. As with homes, churches, buildings and other schools, it suffered major damage–in this case, to its student housing, chapel, library, trees, fencing and the roof of its administration building.
“It has been really a dreadful and sad situation. The seminary has suffered, as our island–our nation–has suffered.” says the Rev. Dr. Doris J. Garcia Rivera, the seminary’s president.
However, this situation can be turned around beyond our greatest expectations, as Ephesians 3:20 attests: “Now to God be the glory, who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.”
Through One Great Hour os Sharing (OGHS), Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico is being restored. An OGHS Emergency Disaster-response grant was provided to the school immediately following the hurricanes, and OGHS funds will assist when volunteers begin work efforts at the school.
Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico’s restoration is only one of 75 projects to be addressed by American Baptist Home Missions Societies’ (ABHMS) multi-year “Rebuilding, Restoring, Renewing Puerto Rico” initiative. ABHMS is committed to restoring Iglesias Bautistas de Puerto Rico’s 114 churches; nine mission; ABHMS Christian center partner Corporación Milagros del Amor; and six of eight schools that sustained substantial damage. This special offering will be received Sunday, June 3rd. Give
generously to OGHS and help with disasters such as this.We have received $117 to date. Thank You!
