Change?I’m sure you know many of the jokes about changing lightbulbs. For example, “How many Harvard students does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one to hold it while the world revolves around him.” There’s even one for us: “How many Baptists does it take to change a lightbulb….”

CHANGE??? (It’s not in our vocabulary.)Most people don’t like change on some level. But the world is always changing…and that’s a good thing. If change weren’t possible we’d be stuck in our current miseries. Change, for the Christian, is normal and expected as we should be becoming more and more like Christ. Change is our hope: “When Christ appears, we shall be like him…” (I John 3:2).The only thing that doesn’t change is God himself. A wise theologian once said, ““All that God is He has always been, and all that He has been and is He will ever be.” God’s steadfastness without change is called his immutability. God will never change in his love toward you and me. Here is the truth and good news about change: God’s immutability is our security; Change is our hope. We’ll unpack all of that this morning.Pastor Bob

On Mission: Christmas in August American Baptist Women White Cross Giving TreeOur American Baptist Women are doing something a little different this year, they are collecting items for the White Cross Giving Tree in August. Christmas in August! This will hopefully give our congregation a break during the Christmas Season. The other details stay the same. The items needed for the tree will be going to help the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service. We will start collecting items now and will receive them until September 2nd! We will be covering details about the Friendship House and the programs it offers in the next few weeks! The mission of the Friendship House is to do the work of Jesus Christ, providing hope, respect, and guidance towards a path to prosperity. We’d like to tell you about the different programs the Peoria Friendship House o f f e r s t h e P e o r i a a n d surrounding area. The next program is Friday Night Take Out. Friday Night Take Out (FNTO) is a weekly food distribution program that has provided over 105,945 meals (since January 2015) to hungry men, women and children who are willing to travel to our facility on a Friday evening. Everyone who shows up receives enough nonperishable food to last an entire week. As a bonus, we also provide assessments and coaching that possibly leads to our wrap-around services. The afternoon provides a “resource fair” environment which offers a variety of community resources that include healthcare, legal assistance, nutritional education and cooking tips, and resources that are indicated through surveys of those attending FNTO. Some of the highlights of FNTO include: • Provides 7 meals to feed a household for a week • Open to the general public • Serves an average of 125-150 households per month • Provides over 55,000 meals per year.
