Additional Preparation

For the past few days, I have been giving myself physical training to keep myself fit and healthy for this hike. I had been sleeping late just to get used of the hike.

Yesterday ( 20/05/2011), in order to prepare for the hike, I myself came homefrom school and bath and hurry to go and pack my stuff. I realise that my camerais spoilt and I had to borrow from others«

It was a very difficult thing as tomorrow they had no school and I had scoutmeeting in the morning so I tried to call my scouts mates to ask whether they canborrow me theirs. Most of them say no because their parents don¶t allow and soon and so forth. Finally my friend at 11:30pm, decided to help me find the camerafor the hike log«

I told her to meet me at school the next day around 12pm.

I was very nervous when she did not come, finally she showed up which calm myheart down«. When she passed me her camera, I was so happy and I told her that I owe her one« when I came back from my Hike

After the meeting, it was raining drastically. We had to find our way to JSS in therain. So we take the bus 246 to lakeside MRT and bought some snacks for thehike. And from there, we took Bus 98 to JSS« and luckily managed to arrivethere before 2pm.

ReflectionsFeelings and thoughts

Before the hike, I felt excited as this is my first time taking part in first class hike. Iam feeling tired before the hike as my team left 47 minutes after the first teamhave left.

For the start of the hike, I wanted to rush with my teammates but in the end wewalk briskly and we thought we were the last team«In the middle of the hike,

most of us are tired, leg pain and cramp and so on« but we did not give up wewanted to complete this hike together as a team.

As a team, we have to work together during this hike and not leave them aloneduring the hike« We assigned each other different roles during the hike. As myfeeling for the hike from excited became very tired«

I know I had to preserver on and not let my teammates down. So I mustered allthe energy that I have left and walk through the rest of the hike. .We were metwith different obstacles along the way like ( almost went the wrong way at thebeginning ), but we managed to communicate with each other and solve thisproblem

At the end of the hike, I am happy with myself as I felt a sense of achievement. Imanaged to complete the hike within the given time. I want to thank my teammates for giving me moral support «

As a scout, we cannot give up easily and I was confident that we could finish thehike if we work together as time give each others full cooperation and support.

Learning Points

I have learnt a lot of things during this hike. I had learnt that teamwork isimportant. Without it, we as a team will not succeed. I also learn not to give ueasily, to have perseverance, and complete the hike within the given time. I hadlearn that communication is important as we may need to decide which way to goand turn. I had learnt that we had to act fast in order to get things done quickly.I had learnt that we also had to work together as one in order to get things doneefficiently.

Logistics

Before the hike, we were told to pack our bag pack for the hike. So I bring alongmy water bottle - to hydrate myself regularly during the hike. I also bring a first aidkit in case of injuries. I also bring Poncho( Raingear) - to prevent myself fromgetting wet in case of raining. I also bring along writing materials - so as to recorddown things and observation during the hike. I brought along a camera - to take

picture of the Checkpoints that we were suppose to go. I also bring along asnacks - so as to prevent myself from getting hungry in between the hike.Torchlight - so as to view the map under the dim light of the lamp post and to getour way in the dark. Insect repellent to prevent insect bites

Pre Hike Preparation

i think that my pre hike preparation can be further improve. I felt that pre ± hikepreparation is important as it will determined which way we go and so on and soforth. For the pre-hike preparation, we were given about 5 hours to do our DraftHike Log and to plan the route for the hike.During the planning process, we work together to plot the route together andsome of us went to research on where is the place located and what is the nameof checkpoint so on and so forth.

Attire and Dressing

For the attire and dressing, it is important to wear comfortable shoes for the hikeand wear ankled socks so as to prevent your ankle from being hurt. I think wewear PT Kit is good for the hike as nowadays the weather is hot . We need towear scarf for identity so as we wil not misbehave as the public will know fromthe scarf that we are from scouts. And wearing proper attire for the hike is veryimportant as safety always come first.
