Kalida Band 4 MilerSaturday, May 13 runsignup.com/Race/OH/Cloverdale/KalidaBand4Miler Contact Diane Vorst (532-2678) or Renee Kerner (532-2636) From the Desk of Fr. Mark Hi, everyone. It's been an exciting week with the news that I get to remain here at St. Michael's and St. John's. Our Precious Blood gathering in Maria Stein this past week had more questions than answers when it came to staffing our assignments, but there was an excellent spirit of trust in the Lord. There is nothing like a gathering of faith-filled people to give hope and joy. I thought a lot of the apostles in the upper room when we met. The world looks so big to spread the Word of the Lord, but given a Holy Spirit, the message went out to the whole world. It is good to be around people of faith. I am looking forward to First Communion in Kalida this weekend. I love to watch children, parents and the whole parish. Much like Continental a couple of weeks ago, the children are on fire with anticipation of receiving the Lord. After the Church celebration, there will be some children who cannot wait to get into play clothes, while others relish in the feel of newness and specialness and want to keep their white dress on all day. Again, I thought of the apostles in the upper room when Jesus appeared. I'm sure there were those who wanted to spread the news that Jesus had risen, while others just wanted to savor the moment. If we could only take that spirit with us when we receive the Lord. Or maybe we can. I enjoy watching the parents. I am blessed in that I get to be up close and personal when families "Take and Eat, Take and Drink." Parents have a look of pride in that their child is saying "Amen" to the Lord and to faith. There is a look of wonder in how much their child has grown and is growing in the Lord. There is a look of disbelief in thinking how this child is growing and maturing into the Body of Christ when yesterday they were brought to the Baptismal font. There are so many Godly moments to capture when a family says "Yes" to the Body and Blood of Christ. I love to watch a church full of people. And this year there will be people watching on television. I was at the Meadows yesterday and many said they couldn't wait to see the First Communion celebration. I see people remem- bering their own First Communion. I see people smiling in the realization of the strangers being included into the family of Church. I see hope in faces in knowing that the presence of God is in this place. I love to see Church alive. Congratulations to our children, our parents and our community for saying "Yes" to the living presence of the Lord. Have a blessed day. Fr. Mark FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY A day like no other!
