All moments are key moments. He considered this wisdom to be at the very heart of every novel, devotion guide, essay, and sermon he has written. It appears to arise from an inspiration to see Christ in the dynamics and the ordinary of life, acknowledging, if God speaks anywhere, it is into our personal lives.(Listen to Your Life, Harper Collins Publishing, 1992). As we turn the page of the calendar to 2020, there will be bounteous sounds, speeches, and swishes, reverberations and vibrations, noises and nuances, melodies and messages to fill our hearing. It is an election year and that reality conveys a resonating anticipation of campaigns with their testimonials and contentious promotions. (The contemporary technology that allows for recording and fast -forwarding televised commercials will prove to be a true blessing.) It is a leap year which always seems to bring unique events. Most significantly, 2020 will be the year we open, begin enjoying, and begin operating our new Family Ministry Center. I believe it is vitally important we consider the distinction of the name we have given this facility. We know it is an element of our church campus unique to any structure we have. We are already proud of its aesthetic beauty and we will be similarly delighted with its remarkable function as a source of Christian fellowship and formation. We will share those plans and programs and hear the sounds of our experiences within. Therein lies the essence of the word, Family. We will need to also listen for the opportunities to utilize its substantial potential as a resource for missional engagements. Ministry, therefore, is a foundational word. Center,in contrast with Complex or Facility or Building, seems to fit in smoothly as a category of structure. We will soon move into our new Family Ministry Center. Lets refer to it as the FMC.The more often we do, the more naturally it will sound. It is an addition to our church, notwithstanding a most significant investment. I look forward to listening to the life it brings to our fellowship and ministry. May each moment we share within its sound structure and each moment we have to open its doors to the life of our community rise from the anticipation and inspiration to see Christ Jesus working in us and through us. Our Mission

“The purpose of First Baptist Church is to

honor God as we love and minister to all people, witness to them of our life-changing Savior, lead them into the fellowship of His church, and nurture them in Christian growth.”

Author and theologian Frederick Buechner wrote, “Listen to your life. All moments are key moments.” He considered this wisdom to be at the very heart of every novel, devotion guide, essay, and sermon he has written. It appears to arise from an inspiration to see Christ in the dynamics and the ordinary of life, acknowledging, “if God speaks anywhere, it is into our personal lives.” (Listen to Your Life, Harper Collins Publishing, 1992). (The contemporary technology that allows for recording and fast-forwarding televised commercials will prove to be a true blessing.) It is a leap year which always seems to bring unique events. Therein lies the essence of the word, “Family.” We will need to also listen for the opportunities to utilize its substantial potential as a resource for missional engagements. “Ministry,” therefore, is a foundational word. “Center,” in contrast with Complex or Facility or Building, seems to fit in smoothly as a category of structure. We will soon move into our new Family Ministry Center. Let’s refer to it as the “FMC.” The more often we do, the more naturally it will sound.

Senior Happenings On Saturday, December 7, our senior adults enjoyed their annual Christmas party. The fellowship hall was beautifully decorated and the meal was delicious. Afterward we were treated to some entertainment by the group “His Voice”. Many thanks to all who helped make it a success.

On Tuesday, December 17, Precious Gems met at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. After our devotional time, we played bingo and then went to lunch at Salem Pizza.

Also during December, all our nursing home residents and homebound members received a Southern Supreme fruitcake and a card from the Senior Adult Council. They all appreciate a visit.

As we come to the end of another year, we are very thankful for the many blessings the Lord has given us. We look forward to beginning a new year. Come join us, you will receive a blessing!

Love in Christ, Faye B. Warren, Sr. Adult Director
