KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir SheikhSabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah receivedyesterday at Bayan Palace Qatar’s ForeignMinister Sheik h Mohammad BinAbdulrahman Al-Thani who handed HisHighness a letter from Qatari Amir SheikhTamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. His Highness theCrown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the PrimeMinister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-HamadAl-Sabah attended the meeting.

The message includes Qatar’s response toa list of demands from Saudi Arabia, the UAE,Bahrain and Egypt, handed over to Doha

through Kuwait late last month. Kuwait hadrequested extending by 48 hours Sunday’sdeadline for Doha to submit the response.

The meeting was also attended by FirstDeputy Pr ime Minister and Minister ofForeign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of AmiriDiwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah,Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs SheikhMohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah who doubles as Acting Minister ofInformation, and Director of His Highnessthe Amir’s Office Ahmad Fahad Al-Fahad.

terday received a phone call from PakistaniPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif. During thephone conversation, they discussed relationsbetween both friendly countries, issues ofmutual interest and the latest regional devel-opments. The Pakistani premier wished HisHighness the Amir wellbeing and the Stateof Kuwait more progress and prosperityunder the wise leadership of His Highnessthe Amir. and prosperity.Separately, His Highness the Amir sent a

cable of condolences to Lebanese PresidentMichel Aoun expressing his sorrow over a firethat swept through a refugee camp forSyrian refugees in eastern Lebanon earlier inthe day, killing one person and injured manyothers. In the cable, His Highness the Amiralso wished a speedy recovery to all thoseinjured in the blaze. His Highness the CrownPrince and His Highness the Prime Ministersent similar cables to the Lebanese leader-ship, expressing similar sentiments over thetragedy.

Earlier, Lebanon’s official National NewsAgency (NNA) reported seven people suf-fered from smoke inhalation from the blazeat the Al-Raed camp located near BekkaValley. They were taken for treatment at localhospitals and were discharged later.

Firefighters and civil defense workers bat-tled and put out the blaze. The fire destroyedalmost all tents of the camp home to 560refugees, according to the report by NNA.Lebanon is home to more than 1.2 millionSyrian refugees who mainly live in severalinformal camps across eastern Lebanon,according to UN estimates.—KUNA

KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, with the presence of Minister of Education and Minister ofHigher Education Dr Mohammed Abdul Latif Al-Faris, received yesterday at Bayan Palace several professors of history at Faculty of Arts at KuwaitUniversity (KU). During the meeting, they presented His Highness the Prime Minister with a study on the history of the State of Kuwait, including his-toric sites. ROME: Minister of Awqaf, IslamicAffairs and Municipal AffairsMohammad Al-Jabri is leading theKuwaiti delegation to the 40th Sessionof the Food and AgriculturalOrganization (FAO) Conference, Rome.The conference that started yesterdayfocuses on the international strategyand efforts for sustainable develop-ment, as well as eradication of hunger.The delegation includes Kuwait ’sAmbassador to Italy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled, Director General and Chairmanof the Public Authority for AgricultureAffairs and Fish Resources (PAAFR)Engineer Faisal Al-Hasawi, and theKuwaiti Permanent Delegate to FAO,Engineer Yousef Jehail. Minister Jabriwill address the session.

The minister will take part today inan international ministerial conferenceon the rarity of water in the Near Eastand North African Region, to reviewKuwait’s efforts to counter the colossalchallenge. Kuwait’s participation in theFAO conference is part of the country’sactive role and contribution to drawingup the field and regional policies toenhance food security on the nationaland international scenes.

On the sidelines of the opening ses-sion today, Jabri and Pakistan’s Ministerof National Food Security and ResearchSikandar Hayat discussed bilateral rela-tions and cooperation.
