Family Letter

This week we will be learning to tell time on analog clocks to the half hour.

We will also practice telling time using the digital clocks.

We will learn that the shorter hand shows the hour and it falls exactly in between the hours ( 3 and 4). The longer hand shows the minutes and

is pointing to the 6 showing 30 minutes past the hour.

Different ways to say the time to the half hour. •  Three-thirty

•  Half past three

•  Thirty minutes before 4 o’clock

Family Time Activity

Directions: §  Use 12 plastic cups to make the numbers on a clock number

them 1 to 12. §  On an index cards record the following times (12:30, 1:30, 2:30,

3:30, 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30) §  Place the cups in order to make a clock face. §  Use two size sticks to make the hour hand and minute hand. §  Turn over the time cards. §  Draw a time card from the cards move the hands on the clock to

show the time. §  Draw the hands on the clocks below. §  Think about some of the activities that you do at the time shown

on the clock?
