Rejoice in the Lord! Dear Friends in Christ,

The other day as I drove down the street, I noticed a small squirrel running across a high wire above the street just in front of me. Just as I was driving under it, I noticed it stumble. I ex-pected it to land on my car. As I looked in the rear view mirror, it was hanging onto the wire and then righted itself. However, he just sat there.

It made me think of life. Sometimes you are going along hurriedly without a care, and then somehow you stumble. For a while it may seem like all you can do is hang on. Then you right yourself, but you need to remain there and re-evaluate your situation. It also occurred to me that just as I was observing the squirrel’s journey, there is Someone watching over us in our daily and life-long journeys.

Wherever you find yourself in life’s journey today—scurrying along, stumbling, hanging on for dear life, pausing to reflect, or continuing along cautiously—remember there is One looking out for you. In Luke 12:6-7, we read:

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Indeed, the very hairs of

your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Oh, how our Heavenly Father values you! He watches over you, cares for you and gave His Son, Jesus, to die for you. You can bring anything to Him in prayer. I Peter 5:7 reads:

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Then, come and join fellow life journeyers as we gather

each Sunday for an hour to praise and thank our Heavenly Father for His love and ever present watch care. Together we will find encouragement, faith, forgiveness, and hope as we hang on in life, evaluate our direction and even have some fun together.

May God bless you in these summer days as you observe the beauty and wonder of nature and have a sense of awe at God’s handiwork.

In the light of His love, Pastor John F. Holt

How blessed we are to live in America! When we hear of the persecution of

Christians like Pastor Saeed Abedini, an American citizen, imprisoned in Iran, or Pastors Yat Michael Ruot & Peter Yein Reith, imprisoned in Sudan, for being Christian, it reminds us once again of the importance of freedom of speech and religion we enjoy here in the USA.

As we celebrate this summer, let’s not take our freedom for granted, but show appreciation for those who defend our freedom. Let’s also be good stewards of our freedom by exercising our right to worship together faithfully each week in church. Also, please, remember the importance of faith-fully supporting the mission and ministry of First Lutheran Church through your tithes and offerings. In these ways we are positive witnesses of the goodness of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the love that is our calling to proclaim and share here at home and throughout the world!

SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMISSION July's special offering is ELCA World Hunger and Malaria Appeal. The global need is not only for food and

mosquito nets but also safe, accessible drinking water. Globally 1.8 million people drink from contaminated water sources. Un-safe water leads to illnesses that claims lives. Every few sec-onds someone in the world dies from poverty-related and/or hunger-related causes. Many go blind each day for lack of proper nutrition. Your donation to ELCA World Hunger makes a difference. Please consider your response to the call to serve others and in response to the call of Christ. "I was hungry and you gave me food, thirsty and you gave me drink, for as you did it to the least of these my brothers and sisters then you have done it as unto me". Thanks to all of the gifts you share. Sharon Overgaard, World Hunger Coordinator Social Ministry Commission

MUSICAL NOTES COMING THIS MONTH--

Independence Day!! Let

Freedom Ring--Happy July

4th!!!

We just finished the first annual First Lutheran Church-

Jessica Lokken Summer Music and Arts School. We spent

three weeks together--working--praying--creating--enjoying-

-bonding--LEARNING!! Thanks to all the children who

participated. Thanks to their parents, their grandparents,

and their designated drivers. Thanks to the faculty and their

support systems. We had a great and rewarding time!!

These pictures say it all. These children brought pure joy,

open minds, and unending energy to the halls of our

church. Matthew 19:14 says, But Jesus said, "Let the

children come to me. Don't

stop them! For the Kingdom of

Heaven belongs to those who

are like these children." The

faculty and support team have

certainly shared their exper-

tise and knowledge with our children, but the

real

teaching has come from the children them-

selves. They have again taught us what un-

conditional love and purity of heart and mind

truly are. They have shown us again how

much they love and trust those who work with

them.

They are our real examples!!! They are the future of this church and God's church.

They are learning and developing the skills to lead worship in the future. Thanks to First Lutheran Church and the Lokken family for unending support!

Upcoming Concert: The Svyati Duo-- She is a

world-class cellist and he is a

world class organist, who holds

a post at a church in

London. Mark your calendars

now for this very special event to

be held on Thursday,

October 15th, 2015 at 7 PM.

Our Choirs will resume in early September including the

First Lutheran Church Choir, the Hand Bell Choir, and

the Rays of Light and Sounds of

Joy Children's Choirs. Choir

folks--have a restful summer and

get ready to prepare for Advent

and Christmas soon!!!

Applications for Choral

Scholarships for youth 9 grade

and higher are available in the

church office or from Tim at 303-

887-4513.

Have a wonderful and safe July. Please keep our Music Ministry

and Outreach in your thoughts and prayers. Peace, Tim

To support people at the time of illness or injury we pastors do make personal visits in the hospital, homes or Care Centers. We occasion-ally check local hospital lists, but sometimes names do not show up on the list. So, please, call, if you want us to know. We try to be available in emergencies. Do not hesitate to call the church, if you have not seen a pastor and would like to request a visit. Pastors’ numbers are on the recording when you phone the church office af-ter hours. We ask permission before we include a name on our print-ed prayer list. Please let us know if you want to be on the list or be

theran Church, which has served you these many years, in your

estate planning. You will enable this congregation to serve many,

many more people in years and generations to come.

ELECTRONIC GIVING

The Bible and the Cell Phone

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat

our cell phones?

- What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

- What if we turned back to get it if we forgot it?

- What if we flipped through it several times a day?

- What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

- What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

- What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

- What if we used it as we traveled?

- What if we used it in case of an emergency?

- What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

This is something to make you go ...hmmm ... Where is my

Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't ever

have to worry about our Bible being disconnected ... because

Jesus already paid the bill!

N eed a ride to church?

We are using the Albert Lea Taxi Service. Those who need a ride to church can call 383-3341 to schedule a ride to the service of their choice 8:00, or 10:00 am on Sundays, or Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm. Just let the driver know to bill FLC.
