A Word From Your

gAs we take a moment to look ahead, we are approaching some very

important days in the life of our church. Each event on the calendar will

have an impact on the world.

I want to encourage you to begin making preparation for Harvest Sunday.

Even though it is in November I am praying that we will begin the process of

praying and saving in order that we might once again bring glory and honor

to the Lord through our giving. Harvest Sunday is a yearly offering that we

receive to help send students to camps, our very own people to the ends

of the earth on mission as well as meeting other ministry needs in our area.

There is a huge ministry impact through these gifts.

Last year we received the largest Harvest Day offering in the history of the

church. Our goal this year is $250,000. Every dollar that we receive above

the designated items of Harvest Day Offering will go to pay off the debt on

the ROC. Please pray and ask the Lord to show you what He is leading

you to bring. What a blessing it will be to see students growing in the Lord,

the gospel spread to the ends of the earth and the bank note continuing to

grow smaller as we work together and pray together about how we can be

a part.

On the same day that we bring our offerings for Harvest Day Offering,

(November 4th) we will also have the opportunity to participate in

“The Gathering”. Since this day includes the time change it makes it easy to

bring your friends to church. We are calling it “The Gathering” because we

want to bring more than our offerings. We want to challenge you to bring

your lost friends. We are challenging Sunday School classes to bring as many

people as possible. I plan to invite the class that has the highest percentage

increase in attendance on that day to dinner. I promise it will be good!

I am very aware of the number of different opportunities that we have in front

of us to participate in giving. I also remember that the Bible tells us that our

God is our provider and His work done His way will never lack His provision.

Simply pray about how the Lord wants to work through you and your family

and give according to His leadership. The goal is not simply reaching a goal,

but rather to impact our world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Along with these opportunities we have Trunk or Treat that allows us to reach

our community, the Church Wide Picnic where we can grow in our love for

one another and the Commissioning Service for Brian and Jeannie Brewer as

we send them out on mission. Please check the newsletter for the times and

dates and be a part of what the Lord is doing through His people at FBCSS.

Be blessed, Pastor Mark

N o v e m b e r 4 t hHigh Attendance Sunday

The annual Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service is Sunday, November 18, 2012.

This year’s service starts at 6pm at the ROC. Eric Godwin, who grew up here at First Baptist Church and is the pastor of Shannon Oaks Church, is the guest speaker. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this community-wide worship event.

In addition to the Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service we are also taking part in the annual Community-Wide Food Drive. It begins on Sunday, November 11, and concludes with the Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service on November 18. We encourage you to donate canned foods and other non-perishable foods to the drive. In previous years Sunday School departments have collected enough money to purchase pallets of canned foods, sugar or rice. Donations stay here in Sulphur Springs to help feed the needy in our community.

160 kids participated last year and we are looking forward to an increase this year.

To minister properly to these kids we will need coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and halftime

speakers. Ask God how He wants you to invest in the lives of others.

The process begins in December with evaluations and team selections.

We also need scholarships so no child is left out. Contact Mike Armstrong for more information.

It's time to start praying about how you can be a part of
