FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Fort Dodge, Iowa
4th Sunday of Easter May 3, 2020
PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
“… in my life, time is most often something I seek to manage or
something I resent – something, it seems, that I never have enough
of. In my frenetic life, I forget how to slow down and wait.”
~ Tish Harrison Warren, Liturgy of the Ordinary
CALL TO WORSHIP
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Jesus said: I am the good shepherd.
Christ lays down his life for the sheep.
The Lamb of God will be our shepherd;
He will guide us to the water of life.
HYMN OF PRAISE #276 “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
WELCOME
MORNING PRAYER
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Loving God, through Jesus Christ you taught us, “Where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Yet we continue to
put our faith in earthly treasures, hoarding up possessions that
moth and rust will destroy, clinging to power and privilege
whenever we can. Set us free from greed and fear. Forgive us
our debt, as we forgive our debtors. Teach us to trust in you
alone; through Jesus Christ, our true redeemer.
Time of silent reflection and confession…
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
The Psalmist reminds us that God’s mercies are new every
morning. When it seems as though we are stuck waiting for our
world to more resemble God’s kingdom, God is renewing us
every day. Friends, believe the good news today. In Jesus
Christ, our sins are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and
earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived
by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he
ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the
communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

_______________________________________________________ As you are likely aware by now, our state government has
mandated increased social distancing through a variety of measures.
This includes the shutdown of numerous businesses and a limitation on
the number of people allowed to gather together.
This time of social distancing will be stressful and trying for all of us.
Your pastors are available for you to call if you need to talk or pray.
Please also check in on your friends from church. Think about the
people you most enjoy seeing each week at church, and then call to
check in on them this week. Let’s practice distancing ourselves from
each other physically while remaining close to each other through
technology and prayer.
If you are in need of anything at all, please do not hesitate to
contact the church office. We will help in any way that we can. We
have Deacons’ and other funds set aside to assist with purchases of
necessities. This includes food and any household items necessary to
get you through this time. If transportation is an issue, we will be glad
to deliver items to your home.
