G.R.O.W. Hour

Come on Sunday mornings at 9 AM for a Bible study through video and discussion. This class aims to help us change our whole mindset about church – to learn that ‘loving’ your church doesn’t just mean enjoying it or liking it, but loving the people who are the church by ministering to them in whatever way you can.

Mystery Dinner Theater Mark October 22 on your calendars for this years delightful Mystery Dinner Theater, “Art To Die For.” An art museum’s fundraising gala is genteel, classy, sophisticated and - the scene of a crime? Shocking but true! The victim is Fran, the callous curator.

The suspects? Everyone else, including her mousy assistant, her brother Casey who (with God’s help) loves his sister warts and all, a pretentious artist with perfectly awful paintings, a wealthy woman with a penchant for baby talk with her wittle puppy-wuppy, and the most eccentric couple ever - the narcoleptic old man and his hard-of-hearing wife.

When Fran takes a blow to the head, Detective A.J. and pint-sized sleuth Billy Jo jump on the case. As information is added in drips and drabs, a portrait of an unexpected perpetrator takes everyone by surprise.

Tickets will go on sale in October so be sure to plan a table for four and get your first come, first serve seats reserved.

Don’t worry, if you don’t have four. We will pair you up with a friendly couple or more.

Call the church office, 627-6006, or Kathie Bortz for your reservations. Remember all the proceeds go to adult and youth mission trips here at First Pres. Hope to see you all there!

All-Church Lunch

On October 9th there will be and all-church lunch immedietly following worship. Plan on coming downstairs for some good food and conversations around the table! Mark it on your calendar now! Any donations given for the meal will benefit Crossroads youth ministry.

Turning missed opportunities to blessings . . . Each of us give in different ways and in different amounts. We give not according to our ability but according to our understanding of the needs. When a person discovers gratitude as a motive for giving, then heart and mind work together to develop good stewardship habits. Just as we learn how to pray by praying, so we learn how to give by giving. What if we were taught and believe that stewardship is what a person does every single day of life? What if we could be taught what a grateful person does with their money so that they could experience the deep and profound joy of giving? What if, honestly and forthrightly, we discovered the biblical truth: We brought nothing into the world, so we can take nothing out of it (1 Timothy 5:7). What if we could see the truth: we cannot take anything material out of this world, but we do take a record of how we have lived our life and what we have done with what God has permitted us to have and use as long as we live? (Stewardship 6/06).

Financial update . . . Your prayers and support in meeting the financial needs of our church do make a difference.

CROSSROADSYOUTH MINISTRY

JEN MILLER

Crossroads leader Andrew Zahn and his wife Rachel have been such a bless-ing to this ministry over the years! “Zahn” as the students know him has been serving at Crossroads since his time as a Waynesburg University student. This is his seventh year with our students; his small group guys are now seniors! Zahn and Rachel recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Rachel attended the High School summer mission trip to Pocahontas, VA as a leader and is awesome! The Zahn’s are great, if you ever get the chance to talk to them, make sure you say hello!

“Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”Psalm 119:105

CATCH UP WITH THE ZAHN’S

Crossroads Carnival Kick Off

The key verse for crossroads this fall, is Psalm 119:015. “Your world is a lamp unto my feet and a light untoi my path.”

The youth ministry at FirstPresbyterian Church kicked off with acarnival on Sunday, September 11. We had around 30 students, 15 leaders and many volunteers. This event provided a great environment for the students to reconnect with their leaders!

There was a lot to do at the carnival, including a bounce house, games and a photobooth!

Normal Crossroads met on Monday, September 18. Middle School met from6-8 p.m. and High School 7-9 p.m.withmarshmallow dodgeball (a youthgroupfavorite), a High School trip to Wendy’s for frosty’s and fries, and with me, Jen Miller, sharing what God has been doing in my life with the students.

The key verse for Crossroads this fall is, Psalm 119:105. “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

I can’t wait to see how our studentsapply this verse to their lives and to see where God’s word takes them as we dive into his word together this fall!!

1st Pres hosted its first ever Family Dinner and Movie Night on 9/23. Nearly two dozen kids along with their parents and grandparents gathered to share dinner

together, followed by a movie. We watched the animated short, “The Biggest Story,” based on the best-sell-

ing children’s book by Kevin DeYoung. “The Biggest Story” shows children (and adults, alike) how God’s promises from Adam and Eve on came to fruition with the

birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Families enjoyed pizza and chips, followed by popcorn as they watched the

movie. What a fun night and a great blessing for all who attended! If you missed this

movie night, don’t fear! More will be coming in the future!
