4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER ~

JOHN 10:11~16

Pope Francis, in his encyclical The Joy of the Gospel, evokes the symbol of the Good Shepherd numerous times. Like Christ, who is the Good Shepherd, the Church goes forth as a community of missionary disciples, tending the ever growing flock. The Church desires to show mercy as the outcome of her encounter with God’s infinite mercy. As Pope Francis notes in the encyclical, she is not afraid to get close to the sheep. He states, “Evangelizers thus take on the ‘smell of the sheep’ and the sheep are willing to hear their voice”. Our God and Shepherd, you know us and the paths we take. May we seek you out in our joys and sorrows, always desiring to hear your voice. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE CATHOLIC

HOME MISSIONS APPEAL

Next week, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Collection. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the US are considered home missions because they are unable to fund essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. Envelopes will be in the pews next weekend More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.
