Today is the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a new Church year. Our readings today encourage you to make a deep examination of your life. Let go of what is not of God and replace it with actions that cry out with a love for the Lord. In the first reading Isaiah prays; “Lord, we are a sinful people yet you are the potter, we are the clay, help us not to wander from your ways, but make of us the work of your hands.” Saint Paul teaches; “God is faithful and by Him you are called to fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord, for you are not lacking in any spiritual gift.” Jesus, in the Gospel commands you; “Be watchful, Be alert for you do not know when the Lord will come, may He not come suddenly and find you sleeping.“ Advent is the time to straighten out your priorities. What are those things that dull your desire for God? How will you embrace Jesus in a new and more complete manner? It is this child who will be born in a lowly stable, who will conquer death, bringing the Hope of Heaven and Eternal Life. This Advent will you be transformed by this Hope? SO, BEGIN YOUR ADVENT ADVENTURE TODAY BY BELIEVING WHAT GOD SAYS ….AND WHOLEHEARTEDLY TRUSTING IN HIS PROMISES! Would you like to become Catholic or complete your Sacraments? Please call Carol Mangani at 973-283-2218.

Morris County’s Homeless Solutions is running a program called “A Night In the Cold” on Saturday, December 5th. Homeless Solutions is a not-for-profit organization that supports people down on their luck who need help getting back on track. Their slogan is "A hand up, not a hand out". They run a warming center, homeless shelter, transition housing and rental units - helping people at all different points of their lives. The money raised for “A Night In the Cold” will go to support Homeless Solutions programs and shelters. Participation will count toward Confirmation Service hours for our teens in the Confirmation Program. Knights of Columbus News: All Catholic men are welcome to join. If you have any questions talk to any current member. Exemplifications and new membership: Ray Duplain, Grand Knight: 201-741-4073 Anthony DePalma, Deputy Grand Knight: 973-886-8942 Calendar: 12/9: Officers, 7:15pm; Business meeting at 8pm – Knights Room in school (enter thru playground)

First Reading: Isaiah 63:16b-17, 19b, 64:2-7 In this straightforward psalm, the people acknowledge their sinful ways, yet plead that their Creator might reveal himself to them. They ask God to remember, not their sins, but that “We are all the work of your hands.” Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 Paul explains to the Corinthians that they are specially favored by God who has sent his only Son to them. He reminds us all that it was through God’s grace that we have been called to kinship with Christ. Gospel: Mark 13:33-37 Just as a servant watching over the master’s house does not know when he will return, we do not know the hour of the Second Coming. Mark reminds us of the warning from Jesus to always be on guard, for we know not the day nor the hour.
