Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!

(2 Corinthians 5:17) Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! I pray that the year 2017 will bring much joy, hope and love to your life and the lives of all of your loved ones. May each of you enjoy a happy and healthy life in the Lord.

I am excited to see how

God will guide us this year. I am ready to be surprised by God’s

unexpected blessings and opportunities that will come our way. I am ready

to be molded by God’s Spirit to be more attentive to the yearnings of God for

me, for us, and for our church. How about you?

Let’s put our hearts, minds, and prayers together. Let us focus our energy and resources to build up our beautiful and blessed faith community here in Newton. Let us use our passion and compassion to reach out to our new friends in the community who have yet to hear the Good News of life and love. Let us dare to dream God-sized visions and move forward. Let us make our church a truly Christ-centered community of faith for anyone and everyone in God’s name. May you have a truly blessed and hope-filled New Year! God loves you and so do I. See you in Church. Eagerly Walking With God and With You, Pastor Jennifer

FINANCIAL UPDATE

I want to thank everyone who has sent in their pledge for 2017. To date we have received 52 pledges totaling $116,942.00 to-wards our budget for next year. I am currently working on the budget to be presented to Finance and Council in January. If you have not sent in your pledge card and have pledged in the past years, please considering mailing it in as soon as possible so that I can firm up the budget for next year. If you have re-quested Giving Envelopes, they will be on the table in the Nar-thex over the next few Sundays. Please pick them up at your convenience.

Our income is currently at $227,422.00 and our expenses are at $228,753.00, putting us in the RED by $ 1,331.00. In the past couple of weeks we have had a number of snow plowing bills for either snow or ice. This has used up some of the money set aside for the Conference obligation. All of the other current bills and payroll taxes are paid in full and we are still at ten months paid of our Mission Obligation to the Greater New Jer-sey Annual Conference. Although we are ahead of where we were financially at this time last year, we still have a way to go to meet our goal of all bills paid 100%. I know that if we all work together we can close the small gap that still remains. I thank you all on behalf of the Finance Committee. ~Shirley Spooner

Bless us, O Lord, and bless the time and seasons yet to come.

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.

And fill this New Year with your kindness,

that we may be glad and rejoice all the days of our life.

Volunteers are key to our ministry.

This month we resume the 185th Anniversary Restoration and Renewal projects. Brighten up your winter doldrums by volun-teering to brighten up the church with fresh paint – we will be painting the chancel area, door jambs, restroom partitions, hall walls, etc., etc. Volunteers may contact Dave Hontz or call the church office.

The church roof is leaking !! Estimates for repairs exceed $40,000. Please consider a gift to the 185th Anniversary Capital Fund Drive to help finance this expensive project. Pledge cards available in the narthex – beneath the chancel cross replica – or a check may be marked to indicate that gift is for the roofing project.
