We sincerely hope this time of worship will bless your life.

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRELUDE
*INTROIT Holy, Holy, Holy The Chancel Choir
*CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsively)
Come to the waters of grace.
Here, our thirst is satisfied.
Come to the rivers of love.
Here, our parched mouths sing with praise.
Come to the tree bearing the fruit of life.
Here, our hungry souls are fed.
Come to the One who loves us.
Here, our hearts find joy, our spirits reside in deepest love.
Come to the waters of grace.
Here, our thirst is satisfied.
*HYMN God of Grace and God of Glory UMH 577
LENTEN JOURNEY FROM LIGHT TO DARKNESS
God has been trustworthy throughout time, but we often question and
doubt and even deny His presence in our daily lives. We focus only on
the times when we experience God’s absence. We worry about what
will happen next, rather than trusting in our Savior. His presence is with
us and we are not alone. Help us to always remember this constant
truth. Our trust in Him is not misplaced!
(Extinguish 1 purple candle)
Let us pray together. God of hope, help us to remember your promise
that you will never leave us or forsake us. As we journey toward the
cross this Lenten season, remind us of your presence, and help us to
remember to put our trust in you. Like the bumper sticker says, Always
Trust God. In Christ’s name. Amen.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Spirit of the Living God UMH 393
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
LENTEN MISSION FOCUS Camp Rainbow Carolyn Slye
HEBREW SCRIPTURE Isaiah 55:1-9 (New Living Translation) 55 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money!
Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! 2 Why spend your
money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that
does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You
will enjoy the finest food. 3 “Come to me with your ears wide open.
Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with
you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. 4 See how
I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a
leader among the nations. 5 You also will command nations you do not
know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey,
because I, the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you
glorious.” 6 Seek the LORD while you can find him. Call on him now while
he is near. 7 Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very
thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the LORD that he may have
mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my
ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the
heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your
ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

OFFERTORY PRAYER (In Unison)
God of Abundant Love, we thank you for your abundant gifts as we
return a portion of those gifts back to you. Tend the roots of our lives
that we may continue to bear much fruit. Tend the shoots of this church
that we may be a forest filled with life-giving fruit and haven-like shade
for a world hungering for your love and desperate for your protection.
In gratitude, we pray. Amen.
OFFERTORY
*PRESENTATION OF GIFTS UMH 87 (V 4)
This gift we now bring, this present, this token,
these words can convey it, the joy of this day!
When grateful we come, remembering, rejoicing,
this song we now offer in honor and praise!

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
SILENT AND PASTORAL PRAYERS
THE LORD’S PRAYER (in Unison)
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever. Amen.

*COMMISSIONING AND BLESSING
As we reflect on a world hungry for God’s love, let us be fruit-bearing
trees, flowering with kindness and compassion.
As we remember those who thirst for forgiveness, let us be life-
giving waters, flowing with mercy and grace.
As we remember our own parched souls, let us cling to God and
God’s people, that we may find an oasis of steadfast loving-
kindness…
Merciful God, full of grace, live in us and flow through us, that we
may be an oasis of steadfast loving-kindness in all that we say, in
all that we do, and in all that we are.
Go in God’s peace, with God’s blessing on your life. Amen.

Altar Flowers One of the ways the Worship Committee has decided to observe Lent is by not
having flowers on the altar during this season of austerity and simple reflection.
We hope this absence of flowers during Lent (March 6-April 20) will amplify the
resurrection message of the Easter flowers when they arrive!

Camp Rainbow Connection is a week-long respite camp
held twice in the summer for individuals with intellectual
disabilities. CRC started in 1985 at Westview on the James, a
camp of the Charlottesville, Rappahannock River, and
Richmond Districts of the Virginia Conference of The United
Methodist Church. That first year, there were 25 campers and
a small staff of 15 volunteers. CRC grew to two weeks while
at the Blackstone Conference and Retreat Center. CRC is
currently held at Richard Bland College in Petersburg,
VA. Each year, there are 100 campers from age 16 into their
eighties and a staff of over 75 volunteers. CRC is resourced
by the Center for Inclusivity and Lay Leadership Excellence.
The staff and volunteers of Camp Rainbow are dedicated to
providing a wonderful and enriching summer program for
each camper, along with a week of respite for families and
care givers. Campers participate in a variety of activities
including Bible class, music, science, arts and crafts, games,
dancing and special activities. Our mission is one of healing
and acceptance towards all God’s people. Because we are
a ministry of the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist
Church (UMC), participation of people of all backgrounds,
ability levels, heritages, and faiths is encouraged.
