THE LENTEN SEASON BEGINS MARCH 2nd Ash Wednesday Service 10:30 am. & 6:00 pm. Mid-Week Lenten Services each Wednesday @ 10:30 am & 6:00 pm
Lent is a season when we take a look at our lives in view of God’s mercy toward
us in the sacrifice of his Son for us on the cross. We, in turn, are called by God,
especially during this time of repentance and reflection, to be living sacrifices for him,
displaying our devotion to him in word and deed. Jesus helps us to see the richness
of God’s mercy in his life, death and resurrection. Join us each week as we
experience God’s Mercy.

Ministry Highlights
“God so loved the world that He
gave His one and only Son!” This is
the message of Lent and Easter!
This is the message of the entire
Bible! This is the message God is
speaking to us all the time! He loves us so much that He
gave! He gave His very best! He gave of Himself to us!
He gave His one and only Son Jesus over to death for
our sins so we might live in His love now and forever!
And He keeps on loving and giving so we
might know Him intimately and love Him
back! He loves us and wants us to know
it, receive it, live in it, grow in it, be moved
by it (in loving Him back), and to celebrate
it with Him forever in heaven!
So, where are you on this journey of living in the love
God has for you? I ask this because the devil, the world,
and our flesh want to fight against us receiving and
growing in the love God has for us. That was Jesus’
warning to the Church in Ephesus in Revelation 2. He
says, “I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first
love. Remember the height from which you have fallen!
Repent and do the things you did at first.” They had it and
lost it. They received it and then took it for granted.
They lived in it and then went back to old habits and old
ways of living.
And the same can happen with us. We can let the
love God has for us in Christ grow cold, weak, familiar,
and boring. That’s why Jesus tells the Church in Ephesus
to repent (turn around) and to do the things they did at
first. This is the answer for when the love of God grows
cold and the relationship with Jesus is lukewarm at best.
It’s to do the things that you did when the relationship
was fresh, alive, full of faith, and filled with the love of
God. It’s to make Him the priority of life! It’s to put
spending time with Him first and foremost. It’s to do
those things where you can receive His love in a new and
fresh way. It’s to worship with a heart of passion! It’s to
pray with a heart of intimacy! It’s to be in His Word
seeking every treasure you can find!
Think about it as if you are dating and getting
married. You live with passion and commitment for
your life together with the intention of never letting that
love fade away. So, I want to encourage you to commit
to these things that can help you to live and grow in the
love God has for you in Christ Jesus our Savior!
Commit to:
Being in Worship! It is in worship that God himself
comes down to inhabit our praises as we sing to His
glory and sing of our love and commitment to Him! It
is in worship that God comes to us to fill us with His
love as we hear His Word and receive His loving touch
in the Lord’s Supper. It is in worship that we spend
time together in a personal and intimate way as heaven
touches earth and earth touches heaven. Don’t miss
another opportunity to grow in the love God has for
you in Jesus as you worship Him in humility and with
passion!
Being in the Word! It is in His Word that God helps
us to know Him more as He reveals His very heart to
us in His willingness to send His Son Jesus to be our
Savior. He created this entire world so He might have
a relationship with us. He paid that price to reconcile
us back to Himself to live as His children and as heirs of
heaven. And He send His Holy Spirit to bring us to faith
and fill us with His love so we might enjoy this relation-
ship with Him now and forever. Take advantage of
every opportunity to be in the Word! What you feed
is what will grow!!
Being in Prayer! Prayer is all about intimacy. It is
more about acknowledging Him than it is about asking
for things. He just wants to hear from you! As you
pray, He can then show you how much He cares about
you as He answers those prayers. Not only that, but
He often does it far beyond what we can even believe
and imagine! Don’t miss out on this precious gift He
gives us in prayer as He listens intently to what we say
and responds in love to every request!
I’m excited for all our Lord has in store for us in this
Lenten and Easter season. Let’s focus our full attention
on His great love and the amazing grace He has for us at
the cross and through the empty tomb. As always, if you
are in need of anything from me, just let me know! I am
here for you and with you on this incredible journey of
faith!

TANZANIA TRIP PLANNED
After two years of postponing our trip because of the
pandemic, we have our airline tickets to fly to Tanzania
on April 19! Five of us will spend a week enjoying all of
the children at Falco’s Children’s Village in rural Karatu,
Tanzania. Missionaries Jerry & Valerie Backus report that
the orphanage has been blessed by God in many ways
and we are excited to get re-connected with them.
Please pray for us that travel plans aren’t disrupted and
that our trip is a blessing to many.

Enjoying this Journey by Jackie Johnson
Jesus Calms the Storm
Mark 4:35-39 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd
behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and
the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples
woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet!
Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
The disciples were doing everything they were supposed to be doing by following Jesus. Learning from Him.
Serving God. Serving others. Obeying His commands. They get into a boat at His command, ”to go to the other side “
and run smack dab into the middle of one of the biggest storms ever. They are experienced fishermen, yet they are
terrified and afraid for their lives, which makes me think that they encountered a storm similar to what George
Clooney and those fishermen in the movie “Perfect Storm” encountered. We can be doing all the “right” things and
still encounter storms.
This storm certainly did not catch Jesus by surprise. I’m sure He knew in advance and also foreknew that they
would all arrive safely to the other side. Jesus is MORE than able to protect us and keep us safe in every storm and
trial of life. Jesus is our Good Shepherd and as He leads us and guides us, He knows that there will be storms ahead.
The good news is that He is there with us. He will comfort us and get us through it. Even though I may walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me. He has a magnificent plan for each and every
one of our lives as we enjoy this magnificent journey following Jesus!
Join me in prayer: Father, we thank you that you are more than able to command the storms in our lives to “Quiet
and Be still!” Lord, we are so grateful, so thankful for your grace that leads us safely through each trial and storm of life.
Holy Spirit, comfort us as we cling to Jesus Christ in hope for a bright future. In Jesus’ name, Amen!!!

My FLC family, are you noticing how many new faces we’ve been seeing in both our 8:30 and 11:00 services on
Sunday morning? Some of these guests recently moved to Hot Springs; several had left for a while and are now back;
others have been invited by our members; and then there are folks in our community hearing that good things are
happening at First Lutheran and are coming to check us out! Look at God! Praise Him for these blessings!
Here at FLC we want to exceed expectations and ensure a memorable experience for these miracles walking
through our doors each week. The best way we can show God’s love is through our actions. Each of us is called to
welcome others by providing a warm, friendly smile and greetings in the parking lot, narthex, sanctuary, and Family Life
Center. Be intentional to create an environment that is welcoming and engaging, connecting guests with God’s Story
by helping them write the next chapter in their faith story.
So, I “Double Dog Dare You”, First Lutheran family, before you find your seat on Sunday morning, seek out
at least two people you haven’t met personally, introduce yourself, and ask their name. (Write it down so you don’t
forget!) I guarantee that this kind gesture will be a blessing to you as much as it will be to our guests.

FEBRUARY NOTES FROM THE
GOVERNING BOARD The upper parking lot looks great! Once the weather
moderates, the rest of the lot can be crack-filled,
sealed, and striped. Thanks for your patience during
the paving process. We are accepting additional bids
for the demolition of the Payton House. If you, or
someone you know, would be interested in bidding
on this project, please contact a board member. We
are on the lookout for a wheelchair accessible van so
that we can serve even more people in the kingdom.
We have grant money to apply towards the purchase
to offset its cost. We will also try to acquire a
building to safely house our vehicles and equipment
on campus. If anyone has any questions or concerns
for the board, please feel free to reach out to us.
We’re here for you and to serve for His honor and
His glory!
The Governing Board members for 2022 are:
Steve Sims, Joy McArtor, David Steele (Treasurer),
Dr. Barney Bond, Angela Looney, and Dr. Harry
Schumacher.
