Explanatory Notes:
This special release presents 2019 Fisheries volume and value of production of Western Visayas. The 2018 data were also included in this special release to obtain analysis on the changes and comparison of fisheries volume and value of production in the region. The information from this special release was taken from www.openstat.gov.ph. The information was further analysed and presented in graphs and tables.
Western Visayas’ Fisheries Volume of Production grew by 0.52 percent in 2019
The total fisheries production of Western Visayas in 2019 was estimated at 381,446
metric tons. The production increased by about 1,974 metric tons from the 2018 reported
volume of production or an increase of 0.52 percent. The increase was attributed by the
increase in the volume of production of commercial, inland, municipal, and aquaculture
sector with 2.85 percent, 6.3 percent, and 0.17 percent, respectively.

Aquaculture fisheries volume of production in Western Visayas increased by 0.17 percent in
2019
The increment in the region’s aquaculture fisheries production by 0.17 percent from
2018 to 2019 was brought by the growth in production in almost all provinces in the region,
except in Antique. Although aquaculture production decreased in Antique, the province was
the top contributor to the region’s total aquaculture production with about 36.12 percent
followed by Capiz with about 31.13 percent. Negros Occidental shared 15.06 percent while
Aklan, Iloilo and Guimaras shared the remaining 17.69 percent. (See FIGURE 2 and 3)

Marine Municipal Fisheries Volume of Production of Western Visayas in 2019 contracted by
0.74 percent
Compared to 2018, marine municipal fisheries production of Western Visayas in 2019
decreased by 0.74 percent or 769 metric tons. The decrease in production from 2018 to 2019
was attributed by the decrease in the volume of production in Aklan, Antique and Iloilo. The
largest decrease was reported in Iloilo from 25,300 metric tons to 22,288 metric tons in 2019.
