Go Beyond the World You Know

FIU has 17 athletic teams that compete in the NCAA Division I—the nation’s most competitive college sports division.

Whether you attend classes on our 344-acre Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 10 miles from downtown Miami, or our 200-acre, waterfront Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, you’ll experience a campus that is full of life. You can get involved in Greek life, join one of our many student organizations, run for Student Government, or volunteer through the Center for Leadership and Service. Love sports? Our championship-caliber Panther athletic teams will give you plenty to cheer about. Live on campus and you’ll be right where the action is. Our five residence halls on our main campus are home to about 3,000 students; about 300 live in our Biscayne Bay residence hall. The campuses are linked by a continuous shuttle service.

Vibrant LivingSure, you’re focused on your future. But you also care about your community. So does FIU. We’re known for putting our arms around the Miami community—and beyond. Through our Center for Leadership and Service, you can become an active citizen leader by getting involved in community service projects, service learning, and student-led philanthropies. Participate in a dance marathon to raise money for the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, grow your leadership skills through our LEAD Team or Academy of Leaders, and perform service projects in more than 22 locations across the globe through our Alternative Breaks program. Talk about a transformative experience—for you and those you impact!

It’s Your Community

“FIU’s extracurricular programs are as diverse as its students. Whether you live on or off campus, you can be involved and actively engaged in the growth of FIU.”

Yesenis Garcia, Psychology major, Miami, Florida

The Sweetwater Partnership through FIU’s Honors College will engage you in projects that improve the quality of life for residents in the city of Sweetwater—from tutoring elementary school students to teaching computer classes for senior citizens to providing an athletic program for girls.
