Custom designed by Hamill Creek Timber Homes in British Columbia, the main
residence has an innovative design with 10,292 sq. ft. on two levels, plus a tower.
Adhering to the philosophy of Frank Lloyd Wright who believed in designing
structures that stand in harmony with nature, the home captures the aesthetic appeal
of the most exquisite Wright designs. A well-proportioned mixture of the exposed,
Douglas fir timber frame with steel tie rods and cables produce a strong, magnificent
feel to the home - complementing the layout and producing a warm back to nature
feeling.
The main entrance sends you under a massive timber frame gate, through lower
meadows, then up a 1/2 mile drive through Ponderosa forest and rock outcroppings
on a paved driveway. The driveway ends at an impressive barrel vaulted porte-cochere
canopy crafted from 42 foot long timbers and arched lams. From under the porte-
cochere you walk into the main entrance of the house which is part of a large four
story stone tower that provides a bird’s eye view of the valley floor and mountains.
The enclosed foyer includes a powder room, stone floors and walls and a four story
curtain wall of glass overlooking the mountain lined valley. The foyer also has a door
leading out to the homes massive wrap around deck on two sides of the home.
As you enter, the home’s main level foyer seamlessly blends into the open-concept
great room consisting of the living room, gourmet kitchen and dining area with
22 ft. high ceilings capped off with two large ridge sky lights and custom lighting.
A spacious, gourmet kitchen with vaulted ceilings opens into the great room and
faces a see-through floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace, 42”x 42”, with custom
sliding screen door on one side and tempered glass on the other, separating the
great room from a large entertainment area. A convenient extension of the great
room that allows meal preparation, party entertainment and on-the-go eating to be
at the center place of the home, the kitchen provides an inviting feel and flow in/
out of every room on the main level. Two long center islands run parallel to the great
room and feature maple and birch cabinetry and woodwork details, granite counter
tops and easy-slide drawers, including deep vertical drawers with sleek, metalwork
hardware and include a bar/prep sink, full gas range and plenty of shelving, linen and
glassware storage. Top of the line kitchen appliances include a Bosch dishwasher and
two Fisher Paykel dish drawers, KWC Swedish water faucets, Thermador refrigerator/
freezer, five electric burner Wolf cook top with two additional gas burners, two wall
ovens and warming drawers by Miele. There is a separate wine cooler and icemaker,
all set on Turkish travertine stone floors with radiant in-floor heat. A small, open office
with powder room is located directly off the kitchen and leads into a spacious laundry
room with sink and plenty of storage space as well as a back hallway with exits to the
front driveway and five-car garage. As a part of the open-concept great room design,
the gourmet kitchen faces the living area and a curtain wall window that looks out
onto a landscaped courtyard with water features and custom lighting. Next to the
kitchen is an adjacent grill room with screen porch, seating area, built in barbeque
area and kiva fireplace which leads to the same landscaped courtyard as above.
Along the east side of the living room and fireplace, a wide hallway leads past the
Entertainment Area into the private Master Suite featuring a romantic stone fireplace
with TV above. A spacious bedroom with vaulted timber ceiling and ridge skylight
over the bed, his/her vanity areas with custom cabinets and Roburn wall vanities,
with rainforest marble counter tops, two toilet rooms and a shower including steam
mist along with a tub room and wall towel warmer. There are two separate walk-in-
closets designed and built by California Closets. An exterior door leads out onto the
homes massive wrap around deck and a second door leads to the rear patio and
courtyard.
