President’s Message By Cindy Jordan, ACSR, CAM, CIPT

HOWDY!
Where has the time gone? Nine
months later there has been lots of
traveling across the great state of
Texas.
We have been welcomed to local
associations throughout the state.
Tanya is writing about our travels in
her report. I don’t want to steal her thunder! However, I do want to thank
the locals for the special treatment we
received on our visits. It is just
amazing how wonderful our members
are. We all love insurance in some
form. We all understand helping
people whether they are customers or
people in our community.
Our 75th Anniversary is a big deal for
FIWT as well as some of the local
associations. We are so excited and
getting ready for convention in
Galveston this year at Moody Gardens.
If you have not made your
reservations, now is the time. Ask
your local president to be watching for
a telegram (email) with more details
about convention after we have our
planning meeting later this month.
We are planning special
entertainment, a keynote speaker,
and surprise gifts during the
convention. The Insurance
Professionals of Galveston County,
Houston Insurance Professionals and
Insurance Professionals of El Paso are
all helping with the convention
activities this year. We can’t thank them enough! But, we could use your
help too. We are need of local
associations to volunteer to set-up the
centerpieces at a few meals and we are
also looking for door prizes to give
away during the event.
Please remember to be working on
your scrapbook pages for the President
book. I really want each local to be in
the scrapbook. I have been asked why
this year we asked each local to make
their own scrapbook pages. This was
an idea we wanted to try because
Tanya and I have worked on the
scrapbook committee four different
times. As a result, we know the
expenses involved and we wanted to
save a little money for FIWT. I ask you
to please bring send your pages into
the Scrapbook Chair, Sandra Waters,
so that when I’m old and sitting in a rocking chair I can look back and
remember this wonderful year.
If you have any questions about
convention please contact Cindy
Jordan.
Invite your friends in the industry to
attend convention.
Until then, Happy Trails!

Immediate Past President Shanna Sutton, CISR, CIPT
Hello Everyone,
As one of my last duties as Immediate Past

The nomination forms are attached, please take some
time and think about who you could nominate. I can
think of so many deserving members.
Please make sure to send all nominations to Kristie
as my committee will be picking the winner blindly.

Howdy Everyone! Convention is right around the corner. Hope everyone has plans to attend! The President
and I have saddled up the wagon once again and traveled to the Metroplex and installed their officers with a
mentoring flair. We then traveled to El Paso for their Night in Paris installation festivities and they were
grand. We had a wonderful time. We have returned home to feed and water the horses and fill up the wagon
to get ready for our next trail ride. We have the President’s visit in Decatur then Summer Retreat. Then we have a short rest and onto our visit with Galveston, Houston and Corpus Christi.
Happy Trails

Hey Insurance peeps! We're close to our summer planning session and I'm so excited about
being part of planning your annual convention! As always, I'm continuing to learn from all
of our members. It's funny because JUST when you get the hang of your position it's almost
over! Anyway, thank you again for electing me to this position I look forward to moving up
and shaking things up! I've got a quote for you this time: “There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”– John Holmes

Vice President
While you are enjoying your summer, don’t forget to continue enriching your life with insurance
knowledge. I know some Locals don’t have meetings during the summer, but please plan to include
educational classes when your meetings begin
again. Remember to keep your Local’s point totals on the classes provided, number of students, and
teachers utilized, for the FIWT Education contest
that runs through the end of September. This year is
flying by, and September will be here before we know
it!
The classes and teachers are lined up for your CE
and non-CE hours at the October Convention in
Galveston. The schedule may have some fine tuning
after our Officers’ planning meeting in July, but it is ready to go. There are several new classes to debut,
written especially for our FIWT members, by FIWT
members. I’m looking forward to seeing the
presentation of this new material, and hope y’all will be excited too! These teachers are passionate about
our industry and providing knowledge to all of you.
Other educational opportunities are available to you
in the form of scholarships from IIAT and The
National Alliance. The scholarship forms have
previously been sent out by email to all of the
membership and are also included in this summer
issue of the Forum. If you are eligible, please apply
for the scholarships, and return the applications to
me before the deadline shown on the forms-
September 20 for IIAT and October 1 for The
National Alliance.
Educationally yours!
2018/2019 FIWT Education Contest
This education contest is for the local associations only, not for individual members. The prize
amount is $100 to the local association with the most points.
Each CE class held by the local association counts 1 point for each hour of CE held. The
number of class hours will be multiplied by the number of attendees to get the total number
of points for that class. It will be turned in as follows:
Class title - # of CE hours x # of attendees
Holding a CE class taught by an FIWT instructor adds 10 points per class.
Holding an official FIWT class add an additional 10 points per class.
If you have a non-CE education class, and it still pertains to business, it adds 10 points per
class.
Add an additional 50 points per attendee per class for attending the Certified Insurance
Professional of Texas class taught at Mid-Year and Convention.
Points will start November 1, 2018 and end September 30, 2019, with the exception of the Certified
Insurance Professional of Texas class. The CIPT class taught at Convention 2019 can be added to
this total, even though it is outside the September 30, 2019 date.

Happy summer!
In the executive office we are busy as ever working on plans for the rest of the year including our 75th cele-
brations. If you haven’t ever been to convention, you are missing out! Join us this year and see what all the fuss is about! If it has been awhile, come back...you are always welcome back.
FIWT… Official 1st Minutes -
“On June 2, 1944 at 9:30 am in the Roof Garden of the Hotel Adolphus, the first meeting of the Insurance Women of Texas was opened by call to order by Mrs. Ruth A. Fredde, President of the Insurance Women of
Dallas., which Club had the privilege of serving as hostess to Insurance Women from Abilene, Austin, Fort
Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Beaumont, Tyler, Temple, Bryan, Monahans, Odessa, Wichita Falls, Tulsa,
Oklahoma City, Shawnee, New Orleans, and Shreveport, Louisiana.”
There were 285 guests at that first convention.
They voted unanimously for the organization of the Federation for the purpose of
• First, through study and practice, the building and maintaining of greater efficiency.
• Second, through association and business meetings, the establishing of acquaintance with insurance
women.
• Third, to collectively participate in the civic betterment of the community.
These incredible women created an organization whose ideals still hold true today. We truly honor these
first 285 women and all those who have become a part of FIWT over the years.
Ruth Fredde wrote in her President’s report— “ The entire strength of our Federation lies not within a handful of officers, but upon the membership comprising of local clubs.” Every member counts, every mem-ber is important. Thank you for your membership with FIWT!

The time to put Cindy's scrapbook together is getting closer and closer. As of today, I've only received two
completed pages (Tarrant County & Tyler), and I've heard from the Houston Association they will
complete and get to me ASAP.
Just a friendly reminder: It was announced at the post convention Sunday morning meeting that each
local association would be responsible for completing pages of pictures, memorabilia, or whatever you
choose to become part of Cindy's scrapbook.
If anyone needs assistance with completing the pages, please reach out to me and
I'll be glad to help. We don't want to get down to the last weeks before convention
and be rushing to put the scrapbook together and you don't want your local to be
left out.
I can be reached at - Sandra Waters - [email protected] or 817-832-0283.
Nominating Committee Chair Chair: Toni Campbell
It is my pleasure as Nominating Chair to introduce the persons who are interested in being
considered for officer positions with FIWT. I can tell you that each of these individuals has
had verification of their qualifications and all were found to be in order, as stated in our by-

It’s exciting to have a contested race. The President of each local will receive an invitation to attend the Nominating Committee’s meeting before the annual meeting. Only one member of each local is entitled to come to the meeting; it is a closed meeting. The candidates will be
asked to be at the meeting and will be invited to join us one at a time. We will be able to ask
them questions to help us determine if we feel they are qualified. If the race is contested,
there will be a paper vote; uncontested will be a voice vote. There will be a bio available so the
members can be informed of each applicant and hold a discussion before convention.
ByLaws Chair Chair: Conya Harris
This is a reminder if your local association has amended or plans to amend your bylaws, the
amendments must to be submitted to the ByLaws committee for review and approval. Please email the

After attending the FIWT Mid-Year in Abilene,
we got to work on finalizing plans for our annual

and sponsored our event.
At our June luncheon, we had a speaker from
Driscoll Children’s Hospital talk to us about how we can help the children in their care. At our
July luncheon, we will award our scholarships
and we hope to have a speaker from Donate Life
Texas. In August, we will volunteer to help
Driscoll Children’s Hospital throw a reception at the Texas State Aquarium in honor of children
that have or will have craniofacial or cleft
surgery. We will also get to celebrate our 72nd
birthday with our FIWT officers, Cindy Jordan,
Tanya Wyatt, and Kristie Gray.
What an exciting time that will be!
And finally, it has been really nice seeing many of
the locals on the cover of The Insurance Record
and reading your stories. I know there are
several in my office that always look forward to
seeing who made the cover, what’s going on with your local, and what upcoming events you are
having. We also read the other stories but seeing
familiar faces and reading about our FIWT family
is the best.

North Texas Insurance Professionals proudly
presented their 2019 NTIP Outstanding
Student Scholarship award to Miss Alexes
Healton. Miss Healton is the daughter of Les
and Melinda Healton of Burkburnett, TX. She
graduated from Burkburnett High School and
is planning on majoring in Agricultural
Communications. She has been an active
member of the National FFA organization,
serving in several offices, including Chapter
Vice President, Chapter President, Chapter
Secretary, District Vice President, and Area
Vice President. As a member of the
Burkburnett FFA Livestock show team, she has
received awards in both Senior Swine
Showmanship and Grand Champion Breeding
Gilt; and is also a member of the NRS Livestock
Show Team. Miss Healton has also been
involved in the Boomtown Babes school dance/
drill team all four years of high school, and
served as Junior Lieutenant and Senior
Lieutenant. She is a member of the National
Honor Society and Interact Club. Keeping a
positive attitude is important to this young
lady, who stated, “In the FFA motto it states ‘Living to Serve,’ and this is my goal every single day. I live my life with a full schedule
because I have the opportunity to make a
positive impact in the lives of others….I believe
in taking things in the most positive
manner. This can change not only
my life, but also the lives of others
looking up to you. Even if it is simply a smile or
polite gesture, it is about making their day.” North Texas Insurance Professionals wishes
Miss Healton success in all her pursuits and
furthering her education!
