Multiple UI Monitors
The Basel ight user interface display can now be splitacross two or even three monitors giving you much morespace to arrange your working environment. Each monitorcontains its own set of workspace views which you canfully customise by choosing to display only those tools andpanels you need for a specific task. Panels can be freelypositioned within the workspaces and you can togglebetween them at the touch of a button according to thecurrent task at hand.
Multiple Tabbed Galleries The new software adds a second Baselight Gallery plustabs in each to allow you to quickly switch betweenmultiple Galleries, while remaining within the samescene. Any Gallery can be set to automatically loadinto the tabbed gallery pages and you can also loada scene or even the current timeline as a galleryproviding you with a storyboard view of the scene.
Direct access to multiple Galleries along with Gallerynotes and metadata, plus the new thumbnaildragndrop feature allow you to quickly and easilyfind and copy the shots and grades you need, withouthaving to open multiple scenes or timelines.
ScopesBaselight version 4.3 includes builtin Vectorscope, RGBParade, YCbCr Parade and Luma Waveform displays plus anew high precision histogram. Accurate levels are displayedalong with an indication of ill egal colours according to thecurrently set combiner output range.
With more than twenty new features and dozens of other enhancements Baselight version 4.3 is a softwarerelease no colourist will want to be without
A compelling combination of new features

Each scope is a separate panel which can be openedas a floating window or docked in the UI allowing you
to choose the best monitoring setup for the currentworkflow. Different configurations can be preset within theuserdefinable workspaces and the new multihead UIallows all the scopes to be docked into a single monitor.
Live MeasurementsWhen the mouse pointer is clicked within the main imagedisplay a live readout appears on all scopes plus thehistogram indicating values for the currently selected partof the image. A key advantage of builtin scopes is thatthey are not restricted to a standard video s ignal formatand will therefore work with material at any resolution.A further benefit is that the scopes measure the imagebefore the application of a Truelight emulation profile
allowing you to check the output levels of the image itself before a display LUT is applied, unlike an external scope.

Strip CategoriesAny strip within a Baselight grade can now be taggedwith one or more categories to enable selective viewing, bypass or rendering. Tag categories are indicated bycoloured slashes on the strips in the timeline.
Performance ImprovementsBackground Caching
Baselight 4.3 will silently render all the shots in thecurrent timeline into a disk cache during idle time, making it possible to play back immediately and saving aconsiderable amount of render time. A colourcoded baralong the top of the timeline indicates the cache statusof the current frames.
Intermediate Cache Strip4.3 adds the ability to cache a grading stack up to aspecific layer and then use that cache as the source forthe rest of the stack. This means that timeintensiveoperations such as temporal degrain only have to beapplied once. The Cache Strip also improves performancewhen working with Bayerpattern sources by ensuring
that the RAW input images are only converted once.
UI EnhancementsDragnDrop
To further speed up the process of setting gradeson single or multiple shots, it is now possible to dragand drop grades from one thumbnail to another.
The same process can al so be used to move thumbnai lsfrom one place to another, allowing you to rearrangeshots in the timeline or Galleries as desired.
Dragndrop is contextsensitive meaning that thesystem will automatically present you with a popupmessage indicating available functions according tothe placement of the dragged thumbnail(s) in the UI.
The draganddrop function also al lows multiple shotsto be dragged into a gallery in a single operation.
Thumbnai l Notes and Metadata Display The rightclick menu for thumbnai ls now includes theoption to add notes and comments to shots in the Cutviewor any open Gallery. The menu also allows you to choosemetadata items to be displayed below the thumbnails.
Numerous Other UI EnhancementsWeve also added lots of other cool features such as inertialpanning, extended mousewheel scrolling and timelinealignement tools, making it even more easy and fun to
work with Baselight.

New Stereo 3D ToolsFully automatic Stereo Geometry Fix
The Stereo Geometry Fix tool now includes a fullyautomatic mode which provides singleclick correction of misaligned stereo 3D shots. It is no longer necessary foryou to manually pick points in the image to be used by thecorrection process an advanced analysis engine doesall the work for you. Detected features can be displayedon the image allowing you to check their accuracy.
Geometric correction is automatic and is able tohandle severely skewed shots without introducingsignificant distortion or shearing. Depending on thenature of the misalignment different transforms maybe applied including translate, rotate, scale, perspectiveand combinations of these corrections in a specifiedorder. Twophase corrections are also supported.
The algor ithms we use are extremely robust and able to
accurately correct geometric errors where a significantnumber of the features are misplaced by up to 2025%.It is also possible to finetune the correction process bymanually removing individual feature alignment points.
The automatic geometry fix is a very fast process allowingyou to quickly try out different transformations to get thebest result for any shot. It can also be used in conjunctionwith Grouped Grading mode allowing you to automaticallycorrect several shots, or an entire timeline with just one click.

StereoGradeStereoGrade is a new feature which combines commonstereoscopic adjustments such as convergence andfloating windows into a single tool, providing specific depthgrading functionality within a stereo 3D scene. Whenapplied to geometrycorrected material the StereoGradeallows you to make artistic changes to the 3D appearanceof a shot quickly and effectively.
Most of the parameters in the StereoGrade can be controlledusing the Blackboard, for example the position and angle of floating windows plus convergence can be adjusted quicklyand precisely in one operation using the trackballs.
A new oneclick function allows you to set the zeroconvergence plane at a specific point in the image providinga very quick way to match the convergence between shots.
The StereoGrade also includes a depth readout allowingyou to check the disparity value at any point in the 3Dimage.
Floating windows can be adjusted using the track balls

Truelight match gradeAnother powerful new feature is the Truelight Cubematch grade which allows all the grades in the timelineto be reduced to a LUT for export, or alternatively grades
can be replaced with a LUT in the timeline to simplify thescene.

Layer Manager
The Layer Manager is another powerfulnew feature which we added to bringBlackboard functionality into the mainUI screen. It enables the direct selection, addition, deletion and ordering of layerswithin the current shot.
This and many other features have been included inthe 4.3 software release to ensure full compatibiltiy withall Baselight systems and products including BaselightEditions for Final Cut Pro.
For full details of these exciting new features plus informationabout other enhancements and additional functionality inBaselight 4.3 software, please contact your nearest FilmLightoffice or reseller.
Matte EnhancementsMatte Tools
The new Matte Tools operator simpl ifies mat te creationand manipulation by combining the separate functions of matte filtering and refining into a single strip.
Filters available within the Matte Tools strip include GaussianBlur, Inwards/Outwards Blur, Erode/Dilate and Median.
Threshold and curve functions can also be applied to fillholes, adjust choking and further refine the matte.
Multiple fi ltering and refinement stages can be applied in anyorder within a single Matte Tools strip and additional stagescan be added or removed as required.
Matte Channel DisplayA new button on the Baselightparameters panel gives access
to the Stack Manager mattechannels within the main UI.
This new Mat te Elementspanel mirrors the buttonswhich were previouslyonly available via the stackmanager buttons on theBlackboard, enabling thesame functionality inBaselight Editions products.
YCrCb Grade The Video Grade now includes an addi tional option tograde in YC colour space. This makes it very easy toadjust, for example, the contrast of an image withoutaffecting the saturation. As with all other grading controlsin Baselight, each parameter can be mapped onto theBlackboard allowing you to set it up according to your
specific requirements. The YCrCb Video Grade can be usedin conjunction with the RGB Grade within one operator andthe order in which the grades are applied can be customisedvia an option in the grade menu.

Object TrackerBaselights automatic multipoint object tracking systemhas been enhanced with the addition of an areabasedtracker. You can now define an area in the image ratherthan individual points and the system will accurately trackthe translation, rotation and scale of the object. As with thepoint trackers it is possible to track forwards or backwards, and also specify new references or add offsets during thetrack if required. Additional settings allow you to disable therotation or scale of the track if required.
