CHAPTER 1 - SAFETY WARNINGS
LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURESThe Occupational Safety and Health Administrationrequires that, in addition to posting safety warnings andbarricading the work area, the power supply has beenlocked in the OFF position or disconnected. It is manda-tory that an approved lockout device is utilized. An exam-ple of a lockout device is illustrated. The proper lockoutprocedure requires that the person responsible for therepairs is the only person who has the ability to removethe lockout device.
In addition to the lockout device, it is also a requirementto tag the power control in a manner that will clearly notethat repairs are under way and state who is responsiblefor the lockout condition. Tagout devices have to be con-structed and printed so that exposure to weather condi-tions or wet and damp locations will not cause the tag todeteriorate or become unreadable.
RITE-HITE Corporation does not recommend any particu-lar lockout device, but recommends the utilization of anOSHA approved device (refer toOSHA regulation 1910.147).RITE-HITE Corporation alsorecommends the review andimplementation of an entiresafety program for the Controlof Hazardous Energy(Lockout/Tagout). These regula-tions are available throughOSHA publication 3120.
SAFETY IDENTIFICATION
NOTE:A Note is used to inform you of importantinstallation, operation or maintenance information.
Danger indicates the presence of a hazard that willcause severe personal injury, death.
DANGER!
Warning indicates the presence of a hazard that cancause severe personal injury, death.
WARNING!
Caution indicates the presence of a hazard that will orcan cause minor personal injury, death.
CAUTION!
Notice communicates installation, operation, ormaintenance information that is safety related but nothazard related and may cause equipment or property
damage.
NOTICE
GENERAL SAFETY NOTICES
When working with electrical or electronic controls, make surethat the power source has been locked out and tagged according
to OSHA regulations and approved local electrical codes.
DANGER!
Damage or debris may fall into electrical components causingfailure or severe equipment damage, when drilling holes in the
box.DO NOT turn control box upside down or go too deeply into the
box.
NOTICE
Make sure to barricade the door opening on both sides to preventunauthorized use until the door has been completely installed.
WARNING!
In freezer and cooler applications where a conduit passes from awarm to cold temperature zone, the conduit must be plugged with
epoxy. This will help prevent condensation from forming in theconduit. For more information, see Section 300-7a of the National
Electric Code.
NOTICE
Do not drill holes on top of control box to run conduit, as dustparticles and moisture may cause damage to electrical
components. The safest location is at the bottom. Failure to do sowill void warranty.
NOTICE
A qualified electrician should install the wiring in accordance withlocal and national electrical codes.
Use lockout and tagout procedures to avoid injury.
DANGER!
To reduce risk of injury or death, an earth ground connectionMUST BE made to the green/yellow control box ground
terminal. If metal conduit is used as the ground connector, anN.E.C. approved ground bushing and green/yellow wire MUST
BE properly attached to the conduit for connection to theground terminal.
DANGER!

CHAPTER 4 - TROUBLESHOOTING / MAINTENANCEFLASHFOLD™ MODEL FLSFLD
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Brake Check the following concerning the brake:a) Brake does not release, check connection in junction box.b) Curtain travels past limit switches, check brake air gap.
Curtain The curtain provides a barrier against sparks, harmful light emissions and physical contact with the machine by the operator. The curtain is manufactured of hypalon fire retardant material. Barrier bars are sewn in to add rigidity. Full width vision or weld screen is available. check the following:a) Curtain runs in the opposite direction of the button pushed. Check the motor phasing, switch two of the three lead wires with the power removed.b) Curtain remains open and does not close, check for activation device failure or activity.c) Tracks off to the side, check for plumb header guides and a level curtain container.d) Make sure unit is secured to the floor, wall or structure.
Curtain container The curtain container is the base of the unit and stores the curtain in the open position.Curtain Guides (optional) The curtain guides, manufactured from an aluminum angle and help guide the curtain in the event
of wind or negative pressure.Header guides The header guides made of extruded aluminum and are bolted to the curtain container to make up
the units frame.Interrupt Switch (Optional) The interrupt switch keeps the machine from functioning unless the curtain is in position. The
switch mounts in the bottom of the curtain guide and is activated by the curtain when it comes into the closed position.
Limit Switch Check the following concerning the limit switches:a) Curtain does not stop at limit switch, check for loose connections and is limit switch hold down bolt tight.b) Check for continuity when the limit is activated.
Motor The motor assembly includes the motor, gearbox, and brake. The motor assembly lowers the curtain before the machine cycle begins and raises the curtain back up when the machine cycle is complete. Check the following concerning the motor:Motor will not run, check for loose connections at motor junction box.
Photoeyes Check the following concerning the optional photoeyes:a) Make sure nothing is blocking the path of the photoeyes.b) Check photoeye alignment
Standard Operating Conditions Operate the curtain under normal conditions. Observe the curtain opening to make sure that it opens fully and does not open so far that it comes out of the curtain guides. Observe the closing action to make sure that the curtain operates smoothly, and fully closes without excessive curtain ripple near the bottom.
