Old Gringo Shoe StoreProfessor: Jason HwangCourse: Architecture Design IIYear: Spring 2008Site: Bowery (across from New Museum)Materials: Basswood, Plexiglass, RubberDescription: The shoe store was an exploration of different materials in relation the facades. The store design was for Old Gringo designer boots which brought the western look to the common person. The store organizes the space in matter to emphasize the western look through popular media. The creation of the facade pattern was conducted through the boot manufacturing process of stretching pattern to the form of the boot.

The Classic WesternThe good guy dressed in white confronted the bad guy dressed in black, the good guy rides into the sunset in the end. No irony or character development.

The Revisionist Western The hero wasn’t unequivocally honorable (more survivor, kill or be killed). Lost of humanity, more of a killing machine than man. Spaghetti westerns were characterised by the presence of more action and violence than the Hollywood westerns.

Science Fiction Western Introduction of futuristic elements in a world resembling the past. The anarchoronistic technology of these stories is present because of scientific paradigms occurred earlier in history

regional master plan of freeport IN_FUSIONProfessor: Janet FinkCourse: Architecture Design VYear: Fall 2009Site: Freeport, Long IslandMaterials: Basswood, PlexiglassDescription: N.Y.I.T. held their annual fourth year team design competition in Freeport. The task was to create a new urban proposal for Freeport which enbodies a new economic revival by creating a new image of the city. Freeport area had physical disruptions which divided the town. A infrastructural stiching architecture was proposed in which it borrowed elements that already existed in Freeport and distributed it along the town to create a more unified town. At the end of the semester this IN_FUSH-ION was voted as the 1st place design between both the Manhattan and Old Westbury campus. It was in display for the NYIT NAAB accredation presentation in March 2011.

F.a.U.L.T.Purpose: Urban Renewal CompetitionYear: Summer 2011Site: Nuoro, ItalyDescription: The design process starts with the main idea of the “F.a.U.L.T.”, an artificial gesture enable to establish a sort of microclimate environmental eco system –Mediterranean Shrubland- where built and open space, nature and artifice can delineate a process of integrate and balanced reactions. The fault is a fracture which breaks the superficial continuity of the ground to reveal and involve its underground structure, the unknown and mysterious power of the earth, that’s a strong element considering tectonic and geography of the Island and the ancient tradition of the “Nuraghe” as well. The specificity of the selected site, a sort of “ribbon” constrained between hilly surrounding, brings in the design proposal this geological and morphological element as potentiality to create new spaces with and through it.

The evolution of Harlem has affected how we use public spaces to how the area should be developed; influencing how we utilize the urban grid. Using the historic grid of Harlem, RIDGE creates organization. The grid is taken into account, as well as public spaces, in-frastructure, contours, adjacent neighbor-hoods, and the Harlem Edge. Utilizing the grids, RIDGE creates a Codex, seeking connections with Harlem’s history and cul-ture. Existing Infrastructures have deprived the Harlem edge from effective development. RIDGE establishes a visual connection, by utilizing the surrounding conditions, which converts the grid to the site, in the form of a codex, creating a visually extended grid. The codex is manipulated in three ways, based on program insertion and location, creating architecture unique to Harlem edge. These manipulations symbolizes how Harlem renewed itself throughout the years. RIDGE becomes the last layer of the site’s dense infrastructure, a new idea of public activity intertwined with landscape, agricul-tural development, where the view and con-nection with the water is the main event.

The evolution of Harlem has affected how we use our public spaces to how the area should be developed; influencing how we use the urban grid and manipulate it.

Using the historic grid of Harlem, RIDGE creates an organization for the proposed project. Not only is the grid taken into account, but the public spaces, infrastructure, contours, adjacent neighborhoods, and of course the Harlem Edge. Utilizing the grids RIDGE creates an instructional manual of how to form the project, a Codex; ultimately seeking connections with Harlem's history and culture.

Part 1: Transit HubThe once abandoned Sanitation building will be refurbished and gutted creating a transit hub for the public. Maintaining the facade creating a connection with the past and use of the site, and an interior which will create a similar language that can be noticed in the rest of the RIDGE.

The Nourishing Community Center provides programs to the neighborhoods to support environmental outreach. Members of the community will be able to promote urban agriculture and advocate a green lifestyle with seasonal feeding and growing programs (in compliance with the Farmscape). The center is made up of three areas. The Nourishing Headquarters, which creates space for Junior Chef Programs, produce selling, and educational programs for the community. The boardwalk provides connection between the Transit Hub and Farmscape. The garden, which is a growing area in the form of a courtyard.

The Farmscape is the part of the RIDGE which creates public

greenhouses controlled by Nourishing NYC. They're one of the main features of

the site for their members that go through their education. Farmscape also creates breaks in the land which will have recreational activities creating a

connection with Riverside Park.
