Cooling System • Check the cooling system to make sure that it has the proper antifreeze concentrations and the proper additives • Check all hoses for cracks or for signs of leaking • Check belts for cracks or frays • Check unit for any signs of possible leaks in the engine compartment, or around the hose routing to the cab. • Check to make sure that you have the proper windshield washer fluid Fuel System • Change fuel filters • Service fuel water separator • Add proper diesel fuel treatment to help reduce water and waxing • Check engine area for any signs of fuel leaks especially around fuel lines and connections Starting System • Clean battery area and batteries • Check battery date, load test batteries to make sure that there are no issues or weak cells • Clean all cable ends and inspect for crack in cable coating. Check for corrosion at terminals ends, clean and coat battery connections with anti corrosion spray or grease • Check Alternator Mounts for tightness • Check alternator out put • Check starter draw Air System • Service Air Dryer changing filter • Check operation of Air Dryer to make sure it is working properly • Inspect air lines and check for any possible leaks Cold Weather Tips With cooler weather quickly approaching, now is the best time to prepare your vehicles for the cold, hard days of winter. While safety is an important consideration all year long, there are certainly some maintenance jobs and safety checks that are specific to chilled air and winter driving that are a good idea to check into before we’re knee deep in the season.
