5. BOEING 747-400 TO LAX
After some shopping at Boots and WSMITH we had the boarding gate announced and had literally to run all the way to get
to the 744 G-CIVP, that took 11h until LAX.

Leaving Heathrow is awesome. As there are only 2 runways (recently-elected David Cameron axed the plans for the third one) there
are always loads of traffic converging at multiple taxiways. So we always pray that we let as many as possible pass in front of us.
The best way to see traffic from the other terminals.

11. APPROACH TO J.F.K.
I had not been in JFK since 1993, as TAP had moved to Newark. I had flown there in 80, 85, 86 and 89, also.
The APP route was complex with lots of turns, but I believe we landed in a 04 runway, and deplaned at T5.

Unfortunately there is no much to see. We went through and old terminal being refurbished and there were no
windows. In the outside we could see 5 BA 747 tails at the same time. We took a bus to Grand Central station, and

13. EWR- NEWARK LIBERTY AIRPORT
We took the NJ Transit train from Penn Station (below Madison Square Garden) to Newark “Liberty” Airport. EWR is
named as such due to the fact that on 911, Flight 93 having departed from EWR, had its terrorist mission aborted by the
passengers.

After a lunch at Camden Town witha friend, we came back to LHR.
I remember reading the paper that Benfica’s player Bynia was public enemy #1 because he nearly broke
some English player’s leg. Back at the airport we picked out stored bagagem and had a tough time with a
Asian security check woman who demanded we carried only 1 bag volume through security. So we had to
pack all to reopen 10 seconds after. She could not even speak English properly.
