Early November 2007,the full flight was:

Broken down as:

• FNC-LIS-LHR-LAX..VCV..LAS-JFK..EWR-LHR...LHR-LIS-FNC, about 120 euros with TAP

• FNC-LIS-LHR-LAX..VCV..LAS-JFK..EWR-LHR...LHR-LIS-FNC, about 650 euros with BA

• FNC-LIS-LHR-LAX..VCV..LAS-JFK..EWR-LHR...LHR-LIS-FNC, by car in a Chrysler PT Cruiser,

some part of it along Route 66

• FNC-LIS-LHR-LAX..VCV..LAS-JFK..EWR-LHR...LHR-LIS-FNC, about 210 USD with JetBlue (late

booking, could have cost half the price)

• FNC-LIS-LHR-LAX..VCV..LAS-JFK..EWR-LHR...LHR-LIS-FNC, took the Tube down to Central

London, armed robbery, like 6 GBP return ticket.

5. BOEING 747-400 TO LAX

After some shopping at Boots and WSMITH we had the boarding gate announced and had literally to run all the way to get

to the 744 G-CIVP, that took 11h until LAX.

Leaving Heathrow is awesome. As there are only 2 runways (recently-elected David Cameron axed the plans for the third one) there

are always loads of traffic converging at multiple taxiways. So we always pray that we let as many as possible pass in front of us.

The best way to see traffic from the other terminals.

6. APPROACH TO LOS ANGELES LAX

LA is a very flat and short building are built to mitigate the risk of the earthquakes.

7. LANDED AT LAX

After leaving the RWY we had to wait 20 minutes in a Taxiway due to a late departure from a LH that was using ours-to-

be gate.

Unfortunately not much more to display at LAX , as soon as we entered the terminal, no more windows, and

from the exit not a/c sightseeing.

Most of the LIVE TV channels were freebie, the pay per view we had to swipe the credit card to get access to. Jus like

cable TV.

We saw live in CNN a top tier actress, which I cannot remember the name, leaving JFK and a bunch of Marines escorting

her through the paparazzi.

The flight is actually 8h, 5 in the air plus 3 hour time zone from Pacific to Eastern.

11. APPROACH TO J.F.K.

I had not been in JFK since 1993, as TAP had moved to Newark. I had flown there in 80, 85, 86 and 89, also.

The APP route was complex with lots of turns, but I believe we landed in a 04 runway, and deplaned at T5.

Unfortunately there is no much to see. We went through and old terminal being refurbished and there were no

windows. In the outside we could see 5 BA 747 tails at the same time. We took a bus to Grand Central station, and

the diver claimed we had passed by Maggie Gylenhall entering a limo.

13. EWR- NEWARK LIBERTY AIRPORT

We took the NJ Transit train from Penn Station (below Madison Square Garden) to Newark “Liberty” Airport. EWR is

named as such due to the fact that on 911, Flight 93 having departed from EWR, had its terrorist mission aborted by the

passengers.

17. LHR-LIS A320 G-EEUK

After a lunch at Camden Town witha friend, we came back to LHR.

I remember reading the paper that Benfica’s player Bynia was public enemy #1 because he nearly broke

some English player’s leg. Back at the airport we picked out stored bagagem and had a tough time with a

Asian security check woman who demanded we carried only 1 bag volume through security. So we had to

pack all to reopen 10 seconds after. She could not even speak English properly.
