One of the absolute best things, about being involved with old cars and trucks is the people that you come
to know thru that involvement. One person that I had a lot of contact briefly was a man named Glen Rose.
Glen, who lived in Oregon, was restoring a 1936 GMC and saw somewhere on the internet that I had a
1936 GMC also. It started out with emails asking about various things and then to phone calls. We both
learned things from each other and when things were going slowly, we would encourage each other to pick
up the pace. The last thing we talked about was that he wanted to find a GMC radiator ornament like I had
on my truck. I told him that I would keep my eye out for one. When I found one and called to let him
know, his wife told me that Glen had suddenly passed away but that Glen had told her that I would be
calling about the radiator ornament. Even though we never met in person, I did consider him a good friend.
So, even though we are having a lot fun and enjoyment with our old vehicles, it is even better with our old
friends.

Meeting Location: Perkins Restaurant, 2626 Gulf to Bay Blvd, Clearwater FL. The meeting was called
to order by Patrick Kroeger at 6:44 PM. Minutes of the 12/14/17 meeting were accepted as distributed.
President’s comments:
Patrick welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2018 with special recognition for a new member,
“Pappy” Papenfuhs who attended his first Gulf Coast Region meeting and also joined us for 2018. Pappy
is a snowbird who spends part of the year in Pittstown NJ. He is a longtime owner of a 1938 Chevrolet
town sedan and also has several other vintage Chevys including a 1963 Corvette and a 1951 BelAir.
Treasurers Report and Membership Update:
At December 31, 2017, the Gulf Coast region had 27 members and a total cash balance of $1,642.16.
Current paid membership for 2018 (including those who paid at the meeting) is 23. All 2017 members
who have not renewed have been contacted and encouraged to continue.
2018 Calendars:
Tom Burtch reported that we have 5 calendars left. This year we ordered 66 calendars in anticipation of
significant sales and the calendars were very well received. Thanks to Patrick for organizing another
fantastic calendar! Any new members in 2018 will receive a free calendar upon joining as long as we have
them available.
2018 Membership Cards
Tom Burtch distributed 2018 membership cards to members in attendance. Cards will be mailed to those
who have paid for 2018 but were unable to attend the meeting.

Other Business:
Bob Bernstel showed a VCCA cap with logo that he recently purchased from another VCCA region which
is selling them as a fundraiser. They are very well done and attractive. Patrick will check on getting some
for our region.
Patrick reminded us of the Area 9 meet to be held in Statesville NC on April 26-28, 2018 and handed out
registration information. If you would like more information, please contact Patrick or look for updates in
the G&D magazine. He noted that the Gulf Coast regions is tentatively scheduled to host the Area 9 meet
in 2021 and he plans to be at the Statesville meet to gain some insight. All VCCA members are welcome
to attend this event and can show a vehicle for judging if desired. Registration for show vehicles closes on
April 1ST.
Next Meetings:
Restaurant space is at a premium during the winter season and we will be meeting at other venues for at
least the next two months. Perkins has stopped their offer of “free” space for our meetings. If anyone has
suggestions for other suitable places to meet, please pass them to Patrick.
- The February meeting will be at the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum at 3301 Gateway Centre
Blvd, Pinellas Park FL 33782 on Saturday February 17TH. This is the museum we toured two years
ago and those who attended then found it to be a very interesting place with many unusual and rare
vehicles on display. Hopefully more of our seasonal members can take this opportunity to tour
the museum. The museum admission price is $5 per person. Please arrive by 1 pm for the tour,
the meeting will follow.
- The March meeting will be on March 31ST from 11 am to 1 pm at Pistorius Collectible Autos in
Odessa. You might recall that Brando and Joanne Pistorius were guests at our meeting last May
and offered to host a future club meeting at their place. We will have a chance to tour the shop
and see vehicles under restoration and then have a BBQ on the spacious grounds around the shop.
Please mark your calendars. Directions and more information will be shared at our February
meeting.
50/50 Draw:
The 50/50 was again well supported. Patrick Kroeger was the winner and donated his prize back to the
club for a net addition of $49 to the club bank account. Thank you, Patrick.
Meeting adjourned – 7:10 PM.
