Fitness Gear & Knowledgewww.fitniche.com

It’s 6:30 AM and you can feel the earth—its roots, its

rocks, its soil and grass—all beneath your feet. As the sun

slants through the trees, you take a few light steps and

begin to trot easily down the trail. You’re connected to

the earth and your feet literally begin to talk to your

brain in a strange but familiar language that it seems

they’ve know all along. Beneath you, an effortless,

nearly flawless stride begins to form. You’re on autopilot,

yet fully engaged with both your body and your environ-

ment. This is running the way it was originally…when you

were five or seven…when Pleistocene age was

beginning…when you ran to live.

Get to FITniche to find out how minimalist footwear can

set you free and become a liberating part of your running

repertoire.

PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM IRRESPONSIBLE DRIVERS

For those of you have have read a similar article by me in the past; it’s time to revisit. For those of you who have not read this rant before, please take a minute to read; check your own coverage, and then protect yourself. By putting ourselves as cyclists/triathletes on the roads of Florida, we’re tak-ing a large risk of eventually having a serious physical confrontation with one of those vehicles who we share the roads with; we don’t win those contests. You can protect yourself and your family by carrying solid uninsured/underinsured motorists’ coverage on your automobile insurance. I’m still surprised how many people don’t know that you don’t need to be in your vehicle to be covered by your auto insurance; if you are in an accident involving a motor vehicle in the State of Florida, your auto insurance applies. Many of the bad driver’s hitting cyclists (and runners) are also bad about having low liability limits on their own insurance, or no insurance at all, which can often leave you without fair reim-bursement for your bike and bodily injury. You can control what insurance is available for your injuries by being sure to carry good UM limits. You can also combine (stack) your UM limits times the number of cars on your policy. If you can afford it, and have an umbrella liability policy to protect you in the event you are the at fault driver causing another injury, you can also for an inexpensive pay-ment add uninsured motorist’s coverage to your umbrella policy as well. Please know I am not an insurance salesman; however, as an attorney repre-senting athletes in such accidents, I can tell you there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing your insurance with high liability limits, but where you’ve rejected the uninsured coverages. I’ve been told again and again that insurance agents will tell you if you have health insurance, you don’t need um, that it’s duplica-tion. That’s just not true, and that agent is doing you a disservice. Simple ex-ample: you lose a leg being hit by a car, if you have health insurance, it will pay the doctor to do what can be done with your body; but health insurance pays you nothing for a lifetime of physical impairment and disability resulting from this injury; nothing for you perhaps never being able to do the events that you love; and nothing for the people you may have to hire in the future to do your work around your house you did yourself before your injury. Uninsured/underinsured coverage will provide such coverage. It acts as additional liability coverage for the at fault driver to guarantee you have somewhere fi nancially to look to pay for your loss. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about this coverage. If one per-son makes changes that at some point protect he or she in the future, this article will be worth writing. Stay safe out there; don’t argue with motorists, and protect you and your family by having this insurance, and then hoping you never need to use it.
