Dearth, who has served as a member of the Calgon Carbon board since 2007, has been president and CEO of Lanxess Corp, an international chemical manufacturer that was spun out of the Bayer Group, since 2004. Before that Dearth was president and CEO of Bayer Chemicals Corp. Dearth believes that Calgon Carbon has a great global platform to build on with experienced and dedicated employees. “I look forward to working with them as we continue to grow the company’s traditional business and pursue its emerging growth opportunities - ballast water treatment, disinfection byproducts, mercury removal, and reactivation expansion,” said Dearth. www.calgoncarbon.com Vokes Air and Filtac A/S are to merge their Danish businesses in order to better serve the local market. The combined business brings together the air filtration expertise of both companies and will create one of the largest players in the Danish market. The new plant will expand Peerless Mfg’s existing manufacturing capabilities in the United States and support the company’s global supply chain needs. “We continue to see growth in demand for our environmental and process products equipment both domestically and internationally. This growth is attributed in large part to the role that natural gas will play in meeting future energy requirements,” said Peter Burlage, CEO of PMFG Inc. Headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee, Decanter Machine specialises in screen bowl, solid bowl and hyperbaric centrifuges for minerals applications primarily within the coal industry and in the processing of fertilizer mineral potash. The company has over 550 centrifuges installed in 11 countries. “This is an important step in our strategic efforts to grow within our six focus industries; coal, iron ore, fertilizer minerals, copper, gold and cement. Combined, the acquisitions of the Australian company Ludowici in July and now Decanter, have strengthened our minerals offerings, making a perfect basis for us to become our customers’ preferred full service provider within both fertilizer minerals and the coal industry,” said FLSmidth Group CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen. Founded in 1983 as Decanter Services Inc, Decanter Machine has offices in South Carolina, USA and New South Wales, Australia. The company has 150 employees and achieved a turnover of approximately US$50 million in 2011. The two companies will share information on new and emerging technologies, and collaborate on innovations within Thames Water’s products and services. Under the alliance, Bluewater Bio will also be able to access Thames Water’s R&D facilities for technology trials and demonstration projects, while Thames Water will work with Bluewater to identify key commercial customers. Rupert Kruger, head of innovation at Thames Water, said: “We’re looking forward to working alongside Bluewater Bio to find bigger and better ways to ensure we use water more wisely in our day-to-day processes. We will squeeze every drop of creativity from this alliance so we can in turn value every drop of our increasingly precious essential resource.” “This alliance with one of the world’s most respected utility companies formalises a strong technological relationship forged over the last four years around shared objectives and values. These are focused on increased water and wastewater re-use, accompanied by reductions in energy and chemical consumption, physical footprint, carbon emissions and operational costs.
