Although it is disputable whether the culturalturn and its dizzying siblings such as the practi-ce or somatic/ body turn bring truly new phe-nomena to light, it has already come to passthat these have at least brought forth new per-spectives on the site of the social (Schatzki). One such perspective is a praxeological theoryof subjectivation that does not see the fully for-med social actor as the starting point for theore-tical analyses, but as a social achievementwhose observation and explanation is equally, ifnot more important for the understanding ofsocial life than the modelling of the decisions ofa rational actor. Talking about subjectivationmeans to talk about the self-making process ofworking oneself and slipping into subject formsof everyday life. The praxeological view of sub-jectivation recognizes the integral importanceof various participants (Hirschauer) in the

process of self-making.In our conference, we focus three particularaspects of practices of subjectivation: materialartefacts, the space practices take place in, andthe very bodies of the subjects-in-the-making.The term participant signifies that these enti-ties are in fact the site of the performance itself,i.e., are not just a context but are co-constitutivefor the taking and upholding of subject forms. In three panels, 'Subjects and Critique', 'Materia-lity-Artefacts-Space' and 'Subjects of the Body'members of the DFG Research Group 'Self-Ma-king. Practices of Subjectivation in historical and

interdisciplinary Perspective' and academicsfrom other universities, take the manifold di-mensions of subjectivation into account.

The conference is organised by the members ofthe DFG Research Group 'Self-Making'.
