Diversity Budget The Process

• Finalized event timeline

• As a group, we identified the different cost assumptions (e.g. $/head, # of people, length of time, on/off campus, room size)

• Estimated cost by category for each event

• Proposed a final budget amount for approval

• Tracked actual spending for each event and reconciled with Marli on a quarterly basis

Diversity BudgetTake-Aways

• First planned and tracked budget for the team

• Actual spending was 29% below forecasted budget• Provided guidelines for spending (e.g. food $) and re-enforced FM budget policy (e.g. meal/no meal)• Obtained ProCard, eliminating the need to use personal funds

• Tracked actual spending

• Increased efficiency of the approval process

• Speakers need invites at least 6 months to 1 year in advance

• Scheduling on Ruth and V’Ella’s calendars

• When possible, feature UW employees

• November 3, 2005 kicked off this history making event for Financial Management

• Performances reflected the diverse cultures FM employees

• An audience of over 100 of FM’s Employees (50%) attended the talent show

• So popular that many commented should be an annual event!

• Recommend morning and afternoon shows to allow for everyone to attend

• Article for Newsletter could be written from FM Employee’s perspective• Capturing on video proved more difficult than anticipated

Mentoring ProgramGroups

• 18 month term allowed for work with 3 separate FM Mentoring Groups

• 04-05 -starts with a Celebration

• 05-06 – Services provided to facilitate the success of 11 mentoring pairs

• 06-07 - A new group of 11 pairs begins the program

• Brainstorming at the Diversity Team Retreat led to new ideas

• Highlight the many cultures within FM

• An 18 month team commitment is important to success

• Increase employee participation in the Mentoring Program
