This past weekend 29 Fruitport DECA students attended DECA’s State Career Development Competition along with nearly 3,000 students from all over the state. We had a great weekend and all students worked hard and represented FHS in a positive light. We also had one of our most successful years yet! Please congratulate the following students for being the best in the state and advancing to the international conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

By Coach Theresa Lahring The 7th grade B Volleyball team competed in seven matches this year. They had a winning record except for the games with our new league powerhouse, Ludington. The team consisted of 14 hardworking athletes and two managers. They learned how to compete in the game of volleyball, learning fundamentals of “bump, set and spike,” and strategies of offense and defense. Many of the girls came to the season with no experience, but finished it with very capable skills and knowledge of the game. The girls played a “right-front-setter” offense and were committed to setting up the hitters. Most competitive servers included Brooklyn Samlow, Alexis Juergens and Kimberly Sauers. Most consistent passers included Olivia Netzler, Katana Danielly, Kelsie Schultz, Taylor Chartrand, and Alexis Juergens. Girls who led their team

Athletes who were a dominant force at the net with their spikes/attacks include Kimberly Sauers, Katana Danielly, Brooklyn Samlow, Kirsten Sweet, Baleigh Kieft, Katlyn Huffman and Olivia Netzler. Those who were chosen throughout the season for “most improved athlete of the match” were Brooklyn Samlow, Crystal Martinez, Michaela Wright, Baleigh Kieft, Katana Danielly and Marissa Eppard. Each of the young women demonstrated great sportsmanship, commitment to their team, cooperation and each gained self-confidence. They learned composure, concentration and consideration for their teammates. Congratulations on another Fruitport volleyball season!•
