Please meet the Ford family, in their own words. Tell us about the Ford family. We are a happy family of 4. We have two daughters, Siara (9) and Siena (5), and our dog Akita. Jay is a Delta mechanic and Beth works for a skylight company. As a family we enjoy the Dallas Cowboys, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Girls definitely enjoy their new pool, and mom and dad like their Harleys. What brought you to Faith? We’ve been looking for a Lutheran church since we’ve moved here from Texas. We had driven by Faith on several occasions, and decided to give it a shot. We came to the first service and were very impressed. First sermon on Philadelphia was wonderful. We saw some familiar faces at church, and just felt very welcomed. How was Faithbuilders? It was a great educational experience! We were so ignorant of so much of the Bible yet, we didn’t feel intimidated or out of place. We both had tried a different church before, back in Texas. Their instruction class was someone just reading out of the Bible, not explaining anything. We didn’t learn anything. Here, we learned so much in the first hour that we couldn’t wait till the next class! What’s different having gone through Faithbuilders? It reiterated things I had learned a long time ago in church or confirmation. I want my children to learn more about God, and I want to learn more so I can teach them. God’s Word is so very important. His unconditional love for us makes such a difference. For many years, I had thought I had to do things right. I thought I had to do things to put myself in God’s favor. Now, I realize it’s not what I do. I love others not to earn God’s favor, but because I’m thankful for his unconditional love. continued on page 2 Focus on New Families at Faith.

FOCUS March 2010

Pastor Jonathan Schroeder 770-253-4007

For the upcoming months, we’ll be focusing on some new families who have recently joined our family of believers

here at Faith. Please meet the Ford family, in their own words.

Tell us about the Ford family.

We are a happy family of 4. We have two daughters, Siara (9)

and Siena (5), and our dog Akita. Jay is a Delta mechanic and

Beth works for a skylight company. As a family we enjoy the

Dallas Cowboys, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Girls

definitely enjoy their new pool, and mom and dad like their

Harleys.

What brought you to Faith?

We’ve been looking for a Lutheran church since we’ve moved

here from Texas. We had driven by Faith on several

occasions, and decided to give it a shot. We came to the first

service and were very impressed. First sermon on

Philadelphia was wonderful. We saw some familiar faces at church, and just felt very welcomed.

How was Faithbuilders?

It was a great educational experience! We were so ignorant of so much of the Bible – yet, we didn’t feel intimidated or

out of place. We both had tried a different church before, back in Texas. Their instruction class was someone just

reading out of the Bible, not explaining anything. We didn’t learn anything. Here, we learned so much in the first hour

that we couldn’t wait till the next class!

What’s different having gone through Faithbuilders?

It reiterated things I had learned a long time ago in church or confirmation. I want my children to learn more about

God, and I want to learn more so I can teach them. God’s Word is so very important. His unconditional love for us

makes such a difference. For many years, I had thought I had to do things right. I thought I had to do things to put

myself in God’s favor. Now, I realize it’s not what I do. I love others not to earn God’s favor, but because I’m thankful

for his unconditional love.

How is Sunday School?

Girls just love Sunday School. Every Sunday when they walk in, they can’t wait to learn from their

teachers. We talk about it at lunch on Sunday, and during the week. God’s Word is a topic of

conversation in our house, and it’s very nice to have that! They love to learn, and we just love adult

Bible class as well.

How about Lenten Dinners and Devotions?

The girls just love them and we do too. We were so happy to have the Advent ones, and we just love

coming on Wednesdays. It’s so nice to say hi to people, relax a little bit, and worship the Lord. I wish

they were every Wednesday! People are just so friendly, its incredible. People are as nice as they can

be, like we’ve known them for years.

Lent Schedule

Please join us Wednesday Evenings in March for dinner and devotion during this Lenten Season. Lent is a period of 40 days of preparation for the celebration of Easter.

6:00pm Dinner 6:45pm Devotion 7:30pm Choir

Signup sheets for dinner are in the gathering area.

If you have questions about dinner,

please talk with Sarah Kvidt or Judy Christopher.

Wisconsin Lutheran College Choir

M AR CH 201 0 Page 3

Our Wisconsin Lutheran College's (WLC) Concert Choir will be performing a free concert here at Faith on Sunday evening, March 7, at 7pm. This Choir is made up of students at our Wisconsin Lutheran College, which is located in Milwaukee, WI. This college, which our Foundations program partners with, is in fellowship with our national affiliation of churches, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Students attend WLC to receive a liberal arts education with a Christian foundation. WLC's Concert Choir will be visiting Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, in addition to their visit here in Georgia. The Choir will present a diverse, mostly acapella program of sacred and secular choral works in original languages

Choral works include:

Knut Nystedt’s I Will Greatly Rejoice! William Byrd’s Agnus Dei (from Mass for Four Voices)

Edvard Grieg’s Our Father Latin settings by American composers include:

Z. Randall Stroope’s emotional Lamentations of Jeremiah J. Aaron McDermid’s Te Lucis Ante Terminum

Greg Knauf’s rhythmically complex Gloria. In addition, the Choir will perform Eric Whitacre’s exquisite Five Hebrew Love Songs with string quintet and Animal Crackers, choral settings of Ogden Nash’s playful verses . The program in four parts concludes with favorite hymns and spirituals, including arrangements by Harry T. Burleigh, F. Melius Christiansen, and Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory, and the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir’s signature Abide With Me, arranged by Lucy Hirt. Dr. James Nowack, director of choral activities at Wisconsin Lutheran College since 1994, holds master of music degrees in piano performance and choral conducting from Kent State University and the University of Minnesota and a doctor of musical arts from the University of Iowa. In addition to teaching and directing at Wisconsin Lutheran, Nowack serves as guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator at conferences and conventions on a regional and national basis. Under Nowack’s direction, the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir has developed a unified voice and a respected presence in the Midwest. A disciplined ensemble of dedicated young adults from across the nation, the choir is comprised of 69 full-time undergraduate students who represent a wide variety of academic majors and minors.

Preschool News

Greetings from the preschool! Registration for the 2010-2011 school year has been going great. We have had such an amazing turnout for the 2 year old class that we started a second class! We also added another class day to one of the 4 year old classes giving our parents the option of a three day or four day class.

I’m often amazed at what draws a person to our preschool. One

person told me they stopped and pulled a flier because they thought that cottage in the back was a really cute preschool. Her comments were a neat reminder about ministry opportunities. We never really know what we do that will give us an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus. In this case, God blessed us with an opportunity through a garage. Next week it might be through acoustic tiles or a new picture on the wall. God is so gracious to us! Keep letting your light shine, Faith!

Sermon Video Taping

Our Sermon VideoTapers are a group of men and women who serve our church by taping our sermons

and uploading them on our website. We find many people, in searching for a church, enjoy watching

one of our sermons before attending. This is a great outreach opportunity that requires some

computer knowledge, but more importantly, a willing heart. Might you be interested in helping us?

Here's some questions I usually get from people interested in taping our sermons:

**Do you really use an Apple for processing the video?**

Yep, we find that our Apple computer processes the video rather quickly. Not familiar with an Apple?

Neither was I - but after some training, we can get rather proficient. Don't let the Apple scare you - it's

easier than you think to work with it.

**How hard is it to tape a sermon?**

We have a step-by-step folder with pictures that outlines exactly what to do. For our first time learner,

they are trained two or three times before they ever do their first video.

**Is the scheduling flexible? **

We understand that with school/work/children's schedules, flexibility is key. Our VideoTapers serve

once every two months, and we are very flexible when schedules conflict.

**What if I'm not sure?**

I'd be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. If you are at all interested in serving

in this way, please feel free to speak with Vicar Schleis.
