It is common to think of thenew year as a time to turn overa new leaf, but it is also a timefor old attractions to receivenew life. Bend O’ The RiverBotanic Garden is on the way tojust that, spurred along withlocal donations such as lastmonth’s by the Temple Chamberof Commerce. The land, giftedto the City of Temple by theTalasek family in 2011 is a his-toric treasure with a scenicriverfront and towering trees.

Now, a variety of communityleaders and organizations areworking with the City in hopes

of making the property available forevents that would benefit the cre-ation of a botanic garden. One ofthose community leaders is JenniferGraham with the Temple CollegeFoundation, who last month receiveda thousand-dollar donation from theTemple Chamber of Commerce. Withthe support of the community, 2013is expected to be a busy year of plan-ning and development, so that soonresearch, education, and recreationwill make the Bend O’ The RiverBotanic Garden the only attraction ofits kind from Dallas to San Antonio.
