Ottawa County is governed by three commissioners who are elected to four-year terms to oversee an administration of elected and appointed officials. The eight municipalities within the county (Clay Center, Elmore, Genoa, Marblehead, Oak Harbor, Port Clinton, Put-in-Bay and Rocky Ridge) all are administrated by mayor/city council forms of government. Each of the townships (Allen, Bay, Benton, Carroll, Catawba Island, Clay, Danbury, Erie, Harris, Portage, Put-in-Bay and Salem) are administrated by three elected trustees.

You can start with a sporter air rifle or air pistol at our 80-lane marksmanship center. In the summer you can learn to safely handle and fire the 9mm service pistol or the AR15 service rifle at the annual Small Arms Firing Schools at Camp Perry.

If you’re already a shooter, you can become certified as a MasterInstructor and help us teach others. CMP has trained hundreds of coaches over the years who have helped us reach thousands of juniors and adults across the country. We are fortunate to be associated with some of the sport’s finest instructors, including the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.

You don’t have to be a championshooter to participate in theCivilian Marksmanship Program’s events, but we do pin medals of several champions each year.

In fact, if you’ve never held a gun in your life, we’re just fine with that too - it might actually make you a better marksman.

Last year more than 15,000 people learned firearm safety and participated in CMP-sanctioned competitions across the U.S. through our club outreach programs.

The best thing is, we’re right here in Ottawa County’s own backyard at Camp Perry, our programming home. Camp Perry is an Ohio National Guard training site that is open to the public.

Discover One of Our Area’s Best Kept Secrets...Compete.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is Open to the Public. If you’re interested in competing in pistol and rifle competitions, CMP hosts a number of events both at Camp Perry and at our regional CMP Games Matches and Events in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Georgia and Arizona, with more to come.

Our competitions are safety-driven and shooter-friendly. We award achievement medals, plaques and trophies at every event. Our shooters range from 10 years of age to our oldest competitor who is nowin his 90th year!

Bring the family out and join us fora rewarding experience that will

last a lifetime!
