Mt. Fuji is not only considered to be one of Japan’s most beautiful mountains, but has also been revered as a sacred volcano where the deities reside, and worship can be seen to the present day. The northwestern slope of Mt. Fuji is home to a virgin forest known as Aokigahara Jukai, or “sea of trees,” which formed after a volcanic eruption 1,200 years ago. Experience for yourself the perspective on nature and culture held by the Japanese people, who have found religious and spiritual meaning in climbing Mt. Fuji and praying to the sun at the mountain.

Ōwakudani was formed around 3000 years ago when Mt. Kami (Kamiyama), the highest peak of Hakone’s volcanic range, experienced a major collapse. Ōwakudani’s desolate landscape emits white fumes, off ering visitors a hint of this volcanic phenomenon. Visitors then proceed to the Hakone Sekisho checkpoint, an important site in the history of transport in the Edo period. Overlooking Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi, Hakone Sekisho is a gateway to the historic town of Hakone. Join this guided tour to visit sites that bear witness to the 400,000-year volcanic activity of Mt. Hakone, located in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, by train, ropeway, and ship!
