Machines
Whether new or used – the purchase of a press, a computer-to-plate system or a proofing system always represents a considerable investment. On the basis of a widely recognized examination, we can determine if the system fulfils the required technical parameters, providing you with the necessary degree of security whether you are the buyer or the seller.
Skills
PDF/X Expert. Members of your staff can provide objective proof of their detailed understanding of working with PDF/X by becoming accredited FograCert PDF/X Experts.
Colour deficiency testing. Fogra offers a test to determine the type and degree of any possible colour vision impairment that might result in false assessments during colour matching.

Just talking about quality is not enough – customers have to be able to rely on it one hundred percent.
Processes
Prove your capabilities with a Fogra certificate – for the entire printing process or for individual stages such as, for example, the correct preparation of print data.
Process Standard Offset Printing. To outsiders, this certification, which is based on the ISO 12647-2 international standard, provides proof of your commitment to quality, whilst internally it ensures problem-free production and helps to prevent complaints. The certificate is jointly issued by Fogra and the Bundesverband Druck und Medien [German Printing and Media Industries Federation].
If you require help in preparing for the certification process then we will happily take you through it step by step until you have achieved the coveted objective.
PDF/X. Nowadays, any agency or printer needs to be able to generate or to correctly interpret and output files that conform to PDF/X. We offer a certificate that allows you to provide evidence of such capabilities, and so prove your expertise to your customers.
Contract Proof Creation. Gaining this accreditation provides evidence of your expertise as a media service provider and your ability to produce contract proofs.

Mistakes can cost a printer dearly – so it is best to avoid them in advance.
Materials and products
Damping solution. Aggressive damping solutions can lead to the corrosion of press components in offset printing. Testing the damping solution concentrate provides security. The tests are carried out by Fogra on the basis of a common test protocol for Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, Koenig & Bauer-Planeta AG and MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG.
Washing agents. We test the compatibility of washing agents with such components of presses as rubber rollers, hoses, seals or paintwork.
Identity cards and passes. Prior to their issue, identity cards and passes from all over the world undergo extensive testing in our accredited and state of the art laboratory.
Inks. Fogra will check for you whether your inks comply with the ISO 2846 colour specifications or whether they might be prone to “ghosting” [matt/gloss effects] with certain papers.
Printing papers. As you are aware, the optical properties of the paper have an impact on the printed result. Fogra will check the compatibility of your papers with the ISO 12647 process standard. We use a separate test method for photographic papers.

How to achieve excellent results
For effective quality assurance in prepress and printing it is essential to use digital control products, which play a key role in any compre-hensive production monitoring system. Fogra not only offers such control products but also runs training courses in their correct use.
Prepress
Ugra/Fogra CMYK Media Wedge. Our media wedge has been in use for more than ten years and is now recognized worldwide as a control product for digital proofs. This media wedge is an essential tool for the professional production of contract proofs in accordance with ISO 12647-7 [proofing from digital data].
Ugra/Fogra Digital Plate Wedge. This plate wedge will effectively and reliably monitor the output quality of computer-to-plate systems with every exposure.
Fogra CtP test forme. This allows a detailed assessment to be made of the imaging of computer-to-plate systems at regularly spaced points over the entire format.
Fogra processor test forme. We developed this tool specifically to monitor the stability of plate processing.

Print quality is all about the settings.
Printing
Ugra/Fogra Digital Print Control Strip. Laying this control strip down on your prints allows you to monitor four colour production printing for colouring, tonal value increase, slurring and ghosting as well as ink acceptance.
Ugra/Fogra Scale – Digital Printing. The output and reproduction properties of digital presses can be monitored for the four process colours with this tool.
Fogra damping control test forme. Optimum print quality can only be achieved on a correctly adjusted press. The Fogra damping control test forme allows the mechanical settings of the printing unit to be analysed through the ink/water balance.

One should always apply the strictest standard to oneself.
Best to test – this principle is even more true in the printing industry than elsewhere. Protect yourself from unpleasant shocks through precise testing. Fogra offers you a range of accurate and user friendly devices.
Ink/coating adhesion
The adhesion of the ink or coating to the substrate depends on a whole host of factors. Fogra offers you a range of different test devices to enable you to draw reliable conclusions about the degree of adhesion: devices for the ‘acetone test’, ‘finger rub test’, ‘wipe resistance and carbon test’, ‘adhesion test of varnish layers’ and ‘UV curing monitoring’.
Fogra folding device
This allows the production of reproducible folded samples, which can then be subjected to pull tests.
Perforation measurement
The Fogra perforation measurement device allows the tear resistance of perforated or unperforated paper samples to be determined.
